The Master Index provides an index for the most commonly used books in the Compaq Tru64 UNIX (formerly DIGITAL UNIX) documentation set. Books included in the Master Index are listed in Book Title Abbreviations.
This book is for anyone who needs to access information about the Tru64 UNIX operating system. It can help you find a specific topic in the documentation set by pointing you to the location in the book where the topic is discussed.
In past releases of the documentation set, the Master Index was part of the Documentation Overview, Glossary, and Master Index. With this release, the Documentation Overview and the Master Index exist as separate books in both online and printed formats.
In the printed version of the Master Index, entries follow these conventions:
Each master index page reference is preceded by an abbreviated book title. For example, the following entry points to page 3-2 in the guide Sharing Software on a Local Area Network:

Book Title Abbreviations maps the abbreviated title for each book to its complete book title.
The format of page references varies according to the pagination method used in a particular book. For example, some books are numbered sequentially; others are numbered so that the page number includes a chapter number and a page number. The following example shows the types of page references contained in the Master Index:

The online version of the Master Index does not contain page numbers. Instead, the abbreviated book title appears as a hot link. Clicking on this link takes you either to the beginning of the book being referenced, or in many cases, to the actual location of the information in the book.
