Motif DWMOTIF125_UPD-V0100 DECwindows Motif V1.2-5 Alpha ECO

TITLE: Motif DWMOTIF125_UPD-V0100 DECwindows Motif V1.2-5 Alpha ECO Modification Date: 21-APR-99 Modification Type: New Kit NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file. The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha. Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which can be used to install the ECO. Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 1999. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: DECwindows Motif[R] for OpenVMS Alpha, Version 1.2-5 SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: DWMOTIF125_UPD-V0100 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: 528 Blocks Kit Applies To: DECwindows Motif V1.2-5 for OpenVMS Alpha OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 and later System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: No (See Installation Notes) Installation Rating: 2 - To be installed on all systems running the listed version(s) of OpenVMS and using the following feature(s): Language variants supported by DECwindows Motif V1.2-5, when using the New Desktop. Kit Dependencies: The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this kit: None In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: None ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for DECwindows Motif V1.2-5 on OpenVMS V6.2 and later. This kit addresses the following problems: PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN DWMOTIF125_UPD-V0100 KIT: o New Desktop problems o New Desktop login dialog does not allow language selection The DECwindows Motif V1.2-5 New Desktop login dialog does not show languages in the Options - Languages menu. The menu always shows only the "C" locale, no matter what other locales are available on the system. Without this language selection mechanism, language variant kits of DECwindows Motif will not work, because the user cannot select the language to be used in the New Desktop session. This problem is fixed in the remedial kit. o New Desktop session does not start if default language is not "C" The DECwindows Motif V1.2-5 New Desktop session does not start when the default language is not "C". After entering the username and password, the New Desktop window manager will terminate and the front panel will not be displayed. The default language may be specified in SYS$COMMON:[CDE$DEFAULTS.SYSTEM.CONFIG]XCONFIG.DAT or by selecting Options - Language - English (United States) from the New Desktop login screen. This problem results in language variants not working properly. This problem is fixed in the remedial kit. INSTALLATION NOTES: Install this kit with the PCSI utility by logging into the SYSTEM account, and typing the following at the DCL prompt: PRODUCT INSTALL DWMOTIF125_UPD /SOURCE=[location of Kit] The kit location may be a tape drive, CD, or a disk directory that contains the kit. Additional help on installing PCSI kits can be found by typing HELP PRODUCT INSTALL at the system prompt. In order to make use of the fixes within this remedial kit, you will need to do one of the following things after the installation is complete. If you did not disable the use of shared linkage sections before starting DECwindows by defining the logical name DECW$IGNORE_SHARE_ADDRESS to TRUE, you will need to reboot the system after installing the kit. If you did disable the use of shared linkage sections, you will need to restart DECwindows by issuing the following command after the installation is complete. @SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTUP RESTART
