PW-OSF PWUNIX_ECO250G PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX V5.0G ECO Summary

Copyright (c) Digital Equipment Corporation 1996, 1997. All rights reserved. PRODUCT: PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX OP/SYS: DIGITAL UNIX[R] (formerly called DEC OSF/1) SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: PWUNIX_ECO250G ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: PWK520_ECO1 ECO Kit Approximate Size: 43360 Blocks 22200320 Bytes Kit Applies To: PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX V5.0G DIGITAL UNIX V3.0 through V3.2G ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX V5.0G on DIGITAL UNIX V3.0 through V3.2G. Problems addressed in the PWUNIX_ECO250G kit: Lan Manager Changes ------------------- o A problem adding users in pwadmin from a Backup Domain Controller. Two fields on the "Add Users" Screen of PWADMIN were corrected. o Lost lmx.srv process due to excessive simultaneous connect requests. Enlarged the connect indication array to 2000, up from 256. Also, added dynamic re-size of connect indication array. o Added code to print a error message in /var/adm/messages file when system runs out of knb or netbeui resources. o Added full path to the lpr command to be passed to the runcmd() in print subsystem. o Changed knblink to bind to IP alias. Allows clients connection across a WAN to a TruCluster Server. Netware Changes --------------- o Modified doprintf() to put output to a log file so debug can be captured for later analysis. The file is configured to have a maximum size. When the maximum file size is reached the file is truncated and output to the file is continued. Problems addressed in the PWK520_ECO1 kit: LAN Manager changes ------------------- o Changes were made to knb to improve the handling of disconnect during session setup. o Changes were made to the print subsystem to be able to turn off tracking of submitted jobs via an undocumented lanman.ini parameter. o Changes were made to the file system interface to turn off write behind in cases when a write error is likely to be lost or an error is likely to occur. If the server reports the error on the close (because of write-behind) it is not immediately reported to the user. Now, write-behind is not in use for the first write to a file after it is open. Also, write-behind is not in use on a share that has had a write error until a write is successful. o Before sending a disconnect message upstream from NetBEUI, check that the upstream pointer has been set up to prevent a panic when the NetBEUI SESSION_END is received before the SESSION_INITIALIZE. o Before sending a disconnect message upstream from knbtcp, check that the upstream pointer has been set up to prevent a panic when the tcp connection is disconnected before the NetBIOS session is initialized. o Change the dialect preference list so that the VMS server dialect is preferred over client dialects. This change allows the server to work correctly with v5.0d PATHWORKS for VMS servers, which send multiple dialects in the server. o Correct buffer size calculations for the UserEnum2 API to correct the "Out of Memory" error in pwadmin when listing a large number of users. o Add code to correctly expand a file when the write SMB specifies zero byte to be written at an offset past the end of file. This corrects a problem of the write SMB not functioning according to spec and preventing some files from being saved in some MS applications. o Add "swapon -s" command to the lmprobe script. NetWare changes --------------- o Before adding a server to the changed list in sapd, check that it is not already there. This fixes a process looping problem. o When there is no free space on a volume, report the free space as zero bytes in sconsole. This corrects an error in this sconsole statistic. o Change the nw_srv script to correctly detect if the server is started in all cases. The script was sometimes detecting that the server was started when it was not. o Initialize a data structure in nwprint to correct a problem of garbage appearing on the banner page. INSTALLATION NOTES: Customers must de-install PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX Base system subset using setld: - If any of the subsets are not installed, setld displays a message to the user stating that. It also prompts the user to make sure they really want to deinstall the subsets specified. and re-install with new kit: > /sbin/setld -l /kitdir - /kitdir is the location of the kit. If the kit is on tape, the most common tape drive specification is /dev/rmt0h. If the kit is already on the system, /kitdir is the path to the kit's location. See directions below for details on installing the kit. Installing The PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX 5.0G ECO2 Kit: ------------------------------------------------------- Use the tar utility to unpack the kit, example: > tar xvf PWUNIX_ECO250G.tar - the following files are in the tar file. PWK.image PWKBASE520 PWKLIC520 PWKNWBASE520 PWKRPL520 PWKCONFIG520 PWKNBU3520 PWKNWTRAN3520 PWKTCP3520 PWKDNA3520 PWKNW3SVOL520 PWKRNOTE520 instctrl The PWK.image file contains the checksum numbers for each subset. Change to the kit directory and use the setld utility to install the kit: > cd > setld -l /kitdir - The above setld command will display a list of valid subsets that are in the current directory in menu format and prompts the user. Below is an example: The subsets listed below are optional: There may be more optional subsets than can be presented on a single screen. If this is the case, you can choose subsets screen by screen or all at once on the last screen. All of the choices you make will be collected for your confirmation before any subsets are installed. - PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX (Common): 1) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - License Server 2) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - PATHWORKS Configuration 3) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - Release Notes - PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX (LAN Manager): 4) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - DECnet Driver 5) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - LAN Manager Services 6) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - NetBEUI Driver 7) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - Remote Boot Service 8) PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX - TCP/IP Driver --- MORE TO FOLLOW --- Enter your choices or press RETURN to display the next screen.
