OpenVMS VAXDEBU03_061 VAX V6.1 DEBUG ECO Summary
NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.
Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists for DEBUG on OpenVMS V6.1. This kit addresses the
following problems:
Problems addressed in VAXDEBU03_061 Kit
o There are no new problem fixes in this kit. The kit is being issued
as a single version kit. If you have installed the VAXDEBU01_071
remedial kit you do not need to install the VAXDEBU03_061 kit.
Problems addressed in VAXDEBU06_070 kit for OpenVMS VAX V6.1
o Missing files. The patch would not correct all the problems
mentioned in the release notes.
Problems addressed in VAXDEBU01_070 kit for OpenVMS VAX V6.1
o Japanese users report that the Debug GUI does not support
Kana-Kanji conversions.
o Source view line numbers are not visible on systems running CDE
and Motif V1.2.4.
o It is difficult to debug problems in the HA (Heap Analyzer) kernel,
especially problems during startup.
o HA main was failing to display error messages to SYS$OUTPUT when
appropriate. In particular, when DECW$DISPLAY was not set properly,
HA main failed to inform the user of its inability to run.
o UIL files contained names greater than 31 characters long which
cause UIL compilation failures on V7.0.
o Applications linked with PTHREAD$RTL go into an infinite loop when
run with the Heap Analyzer (HA) and with kernel threads enabled.
o Narrow the window between when DEBUG gains control and the call
to the threads facility to stop task scheduling.
o RFA, Record File Address, tables were sometimes not being properly
updated. The conditional that helped determine when to update was
depending on a variable that it assumed was static, but was, instead,
changing dynamically.
Problems addressed in VAXDEBU02_061 kit
o When there are two or more address locations using the same symbol
name, the debugger fails to EXAMINE the correct address location.
Problems addressed in VAXDEBU01_061 kit
o The current debuggers' PAGEFILE usage is dramatically worse than
previous versions. In particular, this was observed in poor debugger
command execution times with "DECLARE x:ADDRESS" and "SHOW SYM"
commands. The larger the application the worse the debugger PAGEFILE
usage and performance. On large applications, the debugger could
consume all of the available pages.
INSTALLATION NOTES:
The system does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed.
However, if you have other nodes in your OpenVMS VMScluster, they should
be rebooted or you should install this kit on each system in order to
make use of the new image(s).
