OpenVMS__INFSRV VAXBOOT01_061 VAX 5.5-2-6.1 InfoServer Boot ECO Summary
NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.
Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

SOURCE: Digital Equipment Corporation
ECO INFORMATION:
ECO Kit Name: VAXBOOT01_061
ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None
ECO Kit Approximate Size: 1080 Blocks
Kit Applies To: OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2, V5.5-2H4, V6.0, V6.1
System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: Yes
NOTE: Please review the Installation Notes section
below before beginning the installation of this
ECO kit.
ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists for InfoServer/Boot on OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2
through V6.1. This kit addresses the following problem:
o When an attempt is made to perform an installation from an
InfoServer using an OpenVMS VAX Version 5.5-2, 5.5-2H4, 6.0,
or 6.1 Operating System CD-ROM placed in an RRD43 CD drive,
the system may fail to boot from that CD-ROM. One indicator
of this problem is a "reserved operand fault" followed by a
system halt.
INSTALLATION NOTES:
This kit includes remedial ISL files that correct the stated
problem. However, because this code runs only when the Operating
System CD-ROM is booted, completion of the kit installation requires
additional steps be taken after the kit is installed. The kit
installation will move the ISL_LVAX_*R.SYS files to directory
SYS$UPDATE on the system disk. To complete installation of this kit
follow these instructions:
METHOD 1: Use only if your InfoServer has a hard disk that can be
cut into partitions.
1. From the System manager account set default to directory
SYS$UPDATE.
2. Enter the command: DIRECTORY/SIZE ISL_*.SYS
to view the list of ISL files and their sizes. Note
which version of the files you will need for your system
and how many blocks they require so you can specify that
information in step 4.
For an OpenVMS VAX Version 6.1 system, you will need the
following:
ISL_LVAX_061R.SYS
ISL_SVAX_061R.SYS
For an OpenVMS VAX Version 6.0 system, you will need the
following:
ISL_LVAX_060R.SYS
ISL_SVAX_060R.SYS
For an OpenVMS VAX Version V5.5-2, 5.5-2H4 system, you will
need the following:
ISL_LVAX_U2H4055R.SYS
ISL_SVAX_U2H4055R.SYS
3. Log in to the InfoServer that has a hard disk that is
available to cut into partitions.
4. On the InfoServer do the following:
a. Create a block large enough for the ISL_LVAX_061R file
by entering the following command at the InfoServer
prompt:
InfoServer> CREATE PART DK1:ISL_LVAX_061R BLOCKS 180
b. Create a service that points to the partition by
entering the following command:
InfoServer> CREATE SERVICE ISL_LVAX_061R FOR DK1:ISL_LVAX_061R
6. On the OpenVMS VAX system that has access to the ISL
files, do the following:
a. Start the InfoServer client (if it is not already
started)
b. Bind to the service.
c. Mount the disk.
d. Copy the file.
e. Dismount the disk.
For example:
$ @SYS$STARTUP:ESS$STARTUP CLIENT
$ MCR ESS$LADCP BIND/WRITE ISL_LVAX_061R
$ MOUNT/FOR DAD$ISL_LVAX_061R
$ COPY/CONT ISL_LVAX_061R.SYS DAD$ISL_LVAX_061R:
$ DISMOUNT/UNLOAD DAD$ISL_LVAX_061R
7. Log back into the InfoServer and , with the following
commands, set characteristics that will allow the
InfoServer to down-line load the ISL_LVAX_061R partition
(that you just created):
InfoServer> SET PARTITION DK1:ISL_LVAX_061R MOP ENABLED
InfoServer> DELETE SERVICE ISL_LVAX_061R
8. Repeat steps 2 through 6 but replace ISL_LVAX_061R with
ISL_SVAX_061R. (For an OpenVMS VAX V6.0 system, replace
ISL_LVAX_060R with ISL_SVAX_060R , for an OpenVMS VAX
V5.5-2, V5.5-2H4 system , replace ISL_LVAX_U2H4055R
with ISL_SVAX_U2H4055R.)
9. Boot the operating system CD-ROM through the InfoServer,
as described in the OpenVMS VAX Upgrade and Installation
Manual. However, instead of specifying one of the
ISL file names listed in the table that is included
in that manual, substitute one of the following:
ISL_LVAX_061R (instead of ISL_LVAX_061)
ISL_SVAX_061R (instead of ISL_SVAX_061)
ISL_LVAX_060R (instead of ISL_LVAX_060)
ISL_SVAX_060R (instead of ISL_SVAX_060)
ISL_LVAX_U2H4055R (instead of ISL_LVAX_U2H4055)
ISL_SVAX_U2H4055R (instead of ISL_SVAX_U2H4055
METHOD 2: Use only on a running OpenVMS VAX system that has service
enabled through DECnet.
1. From the System manager account, set default to directory
SYS$UPDATE.
2. Copy the remedial ISL files to MOM$SYSTEM: on the OpenVMS
VAX node that has DECnet service enabled.
For an OpenVMS VAX V6.1 system, copy as follows:
$ COPY ISL_LVAX_061R.SYS MOM$SYSTEM:
$ COPY ISL_SVAX_061R.SYS MOM$SYSTEM: `
For an OpenVMS VAX V6.0 system, copy as follows:
$ COPY ISL_LVAX_060R.SYS MOM$SYSTEM:
$ COPY ISL_SVAX_060R.SYS MOM$SYSTEM:
For an OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2. V5.5-2H4 system, copy
as follows:
$ COPY ISL_LVAX_U2H4055R.SYS MOM$SYSTEM:
$ COPY ISL_SVAX_U2H4055R.SYS MOM$SYSTEM:
3. Boot the operating system CD-ROM through the InfoServer,
as described in the OpenVMS VAX Upgrade and Installation
Manual. However, instead of specifying one of the ISL file
names listed in the table that is included in that manual,
substitute one of the following:
ISL_LVAX_061R (instead of ISL_LVAX_061)
ISL_SVAX_061R (instead of ISL_SVAX_061)
ISL_LVAX_060R (instead of ISL_LVAX_060)
ISL_SVAX_060R (instead of ISL_SVAX_060)
ISL_LVAX_U2H4055R (instead of ISL_LVAX_U2H4055)
ISL_SVAX_U2H4055R (instead of ISL_SVAX_U2H4055
