SNALU62 SNALU62_E01024 DECnet SNA APPC/LU6.2 V2.4 OpenVMS ECO Summary
TITLE: SNALU62 SNALU62_E01024 DECnet SNA APPC/LU6.2 V2.4 OpenVMS ECO Summary
NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.
Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists for DECnet SNA APPC/LU6.2 Programming Interface for
OpenVMS, V2.4 on OpenVMS VAX and Alpha V6.2 through V7.2.
The following problems are addressed in SNALU62_E01024:
o Access Violation After SNALU62$DEACTIVATESESSION Issued
An ACCVIO would occur when the application tries to perform a
reconnect, for example, when the remote IBM becomes unavailable.
This would occur while using VMS/SNA as a gateway. It was caused
by the session block no longer being available or the receive
buffer having been deallocated.
o Connecting With The TCP Transport Would Fail
As a connection is being established, the sequence of transports
(default order is Local, DECnet and TCP) is tried. If one
transport fails, the subsequent transports would also fail.
This problem has been corrected.
o Isolated Pacing Response (IPR) Not Being Processed Would Cause Hang
When an IPR was received, and there are no receives outstanding,
the pacing state was not being set properly. This led to a
hang in the application after the pacing window was exhausted.
o Added support for the Local transport on the OpenVMS Alpha platform
Added support for the Local transport on the OpenVMS Alpha
platform. This will enable local users to connect to
Compaq SNA Server without using a network connection.
This is similar to OpenVMS VAX local users connections to
VMS/SNA. Example: $SET HOST/SNA 0.
o Access Violation with SNA Access Server calling
SNALU62$POST_ON_RECEIPT
An Access Violation would occur when connecting through
the SNA Access Server and calling SNALU62$POST_ON_RECEIPT.
This has been corrected.
o Access Violation in snalog_text called from SNALU62$DEALLOCATE
When both snalog_mask and snalog_file are defined on a
VAX system, SNALU62 V2.4 will get an Access Violation
in snalog_text when called in the SNALU62$DEALLOCATE
routine. On an Alpha system snalog_text will display
garbage data. If only snalog_mask is defined but not
snalog_file, everything works just fine.
o Invalid Authterm Parameter
If a user is using the product while logged into a
terminal that is TELNETed from another system and the
access is to a PU2 gateway or VMS/SNA through GAS, the
following error would return to the user:
-SNALU62-E-RESFRET, resource failure retry
-SNA-E-INVTRMPAR, invalid authterm parameter
-SNA-E-LENTOOLON, transmit byte count exceeds buffer length
INSTALLATION NOTES:
If your ECO kit is named "SNALU62_E01024.A", then
$ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL SNALU62_E01024
The ECO kit can be installed with the VMSINSTAL command procedure, as
outlined in Chapter 3 of the VMS System Manager's Manual (AA-LA00A-TE).
The installation procedure for the DECnet SNA OpenVMS APPC-LU6.2
Programming Interface will install SNALU62SHR.EXE and SNALU62MG.EXE
as shareable images.
To install the APPC-LU6.2 on other nodes that share a common system
disk in a cluster environment, run the SYS$MANAGER:SNALU62$STARTUP.COM
command procedure on each node.
For nodes in a cluster environment that do not share a common system
disk, APPC-LU6.2 will have to be installed on each node.
Verification of the installation can be done either during installation
through the VMSINSTAL utility or at any other time by running the
SNALU62$IVP.COM command procedure found in SYS$TEST. This command
procedure only verifies that the APPC-LU6.2 has been installed
correctly on your system. It does not verify connectivity to the IBM
via the DECnet SNA Gateway or VMS/SNA.
