Problems Addressed in the ALPSMUP01_070 Kit:
o Digital has received reports of possible unintended disclosure of user
access information on Alpha systems running OpenVMS Alpha or SEVMS
Alpha. To protect against any potential security risk, Digital is
making available a mandatory update procedure to Alpha customers.
Apply this update, if you are running one of the following versions of
OpenVMS Alpha or SEVMS Alpha:
- OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 and all associated hardware releases
(for example, V6.1-1H1)
- OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 and all associated hardware releases
(for example, V6.2-1H1)
- OpenVMS Alpha V7.0
- SEVMS Alpha V6.1
- SEVMS Alpha V6.2
If you are running an earlier version of OpenVMS Alpha or SEVMS Alpha,
Digital recommends that you upgrade to V6.1, at minimum.
Digital recommends that you apply this update to your systems
immediately. Applying the update should take only a few minutes, and
you can do it without affecting your ongoing operations. You can
apply the update to a running system, you can apply it multiple times,
and you do not need to reboot the system. While running the update
procedure, you may receive messages advising you of further actions to
take, if any are necessary.
After completing the update, Digital strongly recommends that you
perform an immediate backup of your system disk so that any subsequent
restore operations begin with updated software. Otherwise, you must
reapply the update after a future restore operation. Also, if you
upgrade your system to one of the versions of OpenVMS or SEVMS listed
at some future time, you must reapply the update.
INSTALLATION NOTES:
The system does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed.
However, if you have other nodes in your OpenVMS cluster, they should be
rebooted or you should install this kit on each system in order to make
