OpenVMS ALPDEBU04_071 Alpha V7.1 DEBUG ECO Summary
TITLE: OpenVMS ALPDEBU04_071 Alpha V7.1 DEBUG ECO Summary
NOTE: An OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file is stored
on the Internet in a self-expanding compressed file.
The name of the compressed file will be kit_name-dcx_vaxexe
for OpenVMS VAX or kit_name-dcx_axpexe for OpenVMS Alpha.
Once the file is copied to your system, it can be expanded
by typing RUN compressed_file. The resultant file will
be the OpenVMS saveset or PCSI installation file which
can be used to install the ECO.

ECO KIT SUMMARY:
An ECO kit exists for DEBUG on OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 through V7.1-1H2.
This kit addresses the following problems:
Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU04_071 Kit:
o The debugger's source view oscillates horizontally (steady state)
after an upgrade to Motif V1.2-5.
Images(s) Affected:
- [SYSLIB]DEBUGSHR.EXE
- [SYSLIB]DEBUGUISHR.EXE
- [SYSLIB]VMSDEBUGUIL.UID
Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU03_071 Kit:
o Examines (checks) of global/shared data often show stale
values.
o Monitor view performance suffers severe performance degradation
when the number of monitored items increases. For example,
expanding a 900-element aggregate could take more than 20 minutes.
The performance loss continues even when monitored items are collapsed
or removed (even across runs/reruns). The performance degradation
first started in OpenVMS V7.0.
After installation of this kit the same expansion would take
under a minute.
o Links for System Code Debugger (SCD) relevant OpenVMS V6.2
debug image versions failed to deassign a SYS$BASE_IMAGE
logical.
The original linktime problem occurred with DEBUG.EXE, since
it was linked against an OpenVMS V6.2 version of SYS$BASE_IMAGE.
In this case, some features such as SET BREAK/SYSEMULATE were
disabled.
Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU02_071 Kit:
o The debugger sometimes displays the wrong source and symbolic
information. That is, sometimes it reads the DSTs from the
wrong image or DSF file.
o Some commands, with several different languages, yield messages
similar to:
%DEBUG-E-OPNOTALLOW, operator 'AND' not allowed on given data types
Problems Addressed in the ALPDEBU01_071 Kit:
o Build the debugger against Motif V1.2-3 and provide workarounds
in the debugger for bugs which are currently fixed in Motif V1.2-4.
INSTALLATION NOTES:
The system does not need to be rebooted after this kit is installed.
However, if you have other nodes in your OpenVMS VMScluster, they should
be rebooted or you should install this kit on each system in order to
make use of the new image(s).
