APS APXGW100E01 Advanced Printing Software for Tru64 UNIX ECO Summary

TITLE: APS APXGW100E01 Advanced Printing Software for Tru64 UNIX ECO Summary Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 1999. All rights reserved. Modification Date: 09-AUG-1999 Modification Type: New Kit OP/SYS: Compaq Tru64 UNIX [R] V4.0D through V5.0 COMPONENT: Advanced Printing Software (APS) V1.0 SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: APXGW100E01 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: none ECO Kit Approximate Size: 180 Blocks, 92,160 Bytes Kit Applies To: Advanced Printing Software (APS) V1.0 for Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0D, V4.0E, V4.0F and V5.0 System/Cluster Reboot Necessary: No Installation Rating: N/A Kit Dependencies: The following remedial kit(s) must be installed BEFORE installation of this kit: None In order to receive all the corrections listed in this kit, the following remedial kits should also be installed: None ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for Advanced Printing Software (APS) V1.0 on Compaq Tru64 UNIX [R] V4.0D through V5.0. This kit addresses the following problems: Problems addressed in APXGW100E01: o Potential job data loss in BSD Inbound Gateway Job data files submitted through the BSD inbound gateway daemon can be inadvertently corrupted when a newly submitted print job has the same job number and originating host as a previously submitted job. This scenario can occur in one of the following ways: - More than 1000 jobs are submitted to a particular printer queue when the printer is disabled or backlogged. - Two or more jobs are submitted to the gateway from one remote host, and happen to have the same job number, even if they are destined for different printers. The version of the inbound gateway daemon supplied with this ECO corrects the problem by giving spooled data files unique names, based on the printer name, the gateway process ID and a timestamp string. It is identified by the version string "1.0-A", which can be obtained by running the program with the -V option. NOTE: This ECO applies only to the BSD inbound-gateway daemon supplied with the APXGW100 subset. Advanced Printing base client installations do not require this ECO. To determine which Advanced Printing subsets are installed, use the following command: # setld -i | grep APX To determine which version of the BSD inbound gateway is installed, use the following command: # /usr/pd/sbin/in.bsd-gw -V The previous version reports "illegal option -- V". The version supplied with this patch identifies itself as "1.0-A". # what /usr/pd/lib/bsd_dpa.so /usr/pd/lib/bsd_dpa.so: misc.c 1.6 98/02/20 SunSoft cancel_job.c 1.6 98/02/27 SunSoft ns_api.h 1.3 96/04/01 SunSoft ns.h 1.3 95/04/13 SunSoft submit_job.c 1.24 98/07/20 SunSoft ns_api.h 1.3 96/04/01 SunSoft ns.h 1.3 95/04/13 SunSoft show_status.c 1.10 99/06/14 SunSoft <--- different ns_api.h 1.3 96/04/01 SunSoft ns.h 1.3 95/04/13 SunSoft xerox_extensions.c 1.15 96/11/18 SunSoft INSTALLATION NOTES: This ECO applies only to the BSD inbound-gateway daemon supplied with the APXGW100 subset. Advanced Printing base client installations do not require this ECO. To determine which Advanced Printing subsets are installed, use the following command: # setld -i | grep APX Installation of this ECO requires the subset APXGW100 to have been previously installed. During the installation process, updated files will be replaced. To install this ECO, use the setld command: # setld -l Once the ECO installation is completed, Compaq recommends you stop the BSD inbound-gateway daemon and restart it for the changes to take effect: # ps auxw | grep in.bsd-gw | egrep -v grep # kill -TERM # /sbin/init.d/apx start To remove this ECO, use setld to delete the ECO subset. When the subset it de-installed, the original files will be replaced. # setld -d APXGW100E01 All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
