dUNIX ASU41ECO1_240 Advanced Server for UNIX V4.1 ECO Summary

TITLE: dUNIX ASU41ECO1_240 Advanced Server for UNIX V4.1 ECO Summary Copyright (c) Compaq Computer Corporation 1999. All rights reserved. Modification Date: 10-NOV-99 Modification Type: New Kit PRODUCT: Advanced Server for UNIX OP/SYS: Compaq Tru64 UNIX SOURCE: Compaq Computer Corporation ECO INFORMATION: ECO Kit Name: ASU41ECO1_240 ECO Kits Superseded by This ECO Kit: None ECO Kit Approximate Size: 62960 Blocks (32235520 Bytes) Kit Applies To: Advanced Server for UNIX V4.1 on Tru64 UNIX V4.0 - V5.0 ECO KIT SUMMARY: An ECO kit exists for Advanced Server for UNIX V4.1 on Tru64 UNIX V4.0 through V5.0. This kit addresses the following problems: Problems Addressed in ASU41ECO1_240: The following ASU and Windows 2000 interoperability problems are adddressed in this ECO1 kit: o You could not configure the ASU server as a backup domain controller (BDC) to a Windows 2000 primary domain controller (PDC). This problem has been fixed. o When configured as a BDC to a Windows 2000 PDC, the ASU server crashed when the following command was entered to create a domain user account: net user /add This problem has been fixed. o You could not modify domain user passwords from a Windows 2000 BDC. This problem has been fixed. o You could not save files larger than 64KB in an ASU disk share. To fix this problem, you must decrease the the value of the Max Message Size registry entry to 65534 and restart the ASU server. See the ASU Installation and Administration guide for information on changing the value of a registry entry. Compaq continues to actively test ASU and Windows 2000 interoperability. However, until Windows 2000 is officially released, the potential exists for new problems to arise. Compaq will continue to address Windows 2000 interoperability problems and, if necessary, will release another ECO kit with fixes for any new problems shortly after Windows 2000 ships. The following are general ASU problems that are addressed in this kit. o The archive bit was not honored on files that were edited using the notepad utility from a Windows system and saved in an ASU disk share. This problem has been fixed. o The lmx.srv process consumed excessive amounts of CPU time if a client encountered a transport error while the ASU server was breaking an oplock, processing a print request, or performing some other time-consuming server operation. This problem has been fixed. o The lmspoolmap files were becoming corrupt, which caused printing to sometimes fail after a day or two. The message "Error has been detected in the Printer setup" was displayed. The workaround was to delete the /usr/net/servers/lanman/spool/lmspoolmap* files. This problem has been fixed. o ASU did not allow a user's primary group to have the same name as the domain name. This problem has been fixed. o Under certain circumstances, processes associated with the ASU server could go into a defunct state upon shutdown. Error messages such as "no such device" or "error in protocol" would be displayed when the ASU server tried to restart. This problem has been fixed. o Under certain circumstances, the NetBEUI nbelink process could terminate abnormally without creating a core file. This problem has been fixed. In this ECO1 kit, all NetBEUI link processes (nbelink and dllink) will handle all signals such that they are ignored, cause the process to terminate normally, or create a core file and stack trace as appropriate. These changes were previously made for the NetBIOS over TCP/IP link process (knblink). o The Power Users Group was not supported on a system configured as an ASU member server. This problem has been fixed. o The ASU Installation and Administration guide incorrectly describes how to configure a printer that is attached to a PC running the MS-DOS operating system software as an ASU printer share. See the asuclient(8) reference page for the correct configuration information. NOTE: The ASU V4.1 documentation was not updated for this ECO1 release. This letter together with the ASU V4.1 documentation provides a complete description of the ASU V4.1 ECO1 software. Some of the problems listed in the ASU V4.1 Release Notes are fixed in this ECO1 software, as described earlier in this document. INSTALLATION NOTES: This ECO1 kit is a complete software kit that includes the features and functionality of the ASU V4.1 software and provides fixes for the problems described in this document. If you have ASU or ASDU subsets installed, then you can use the asuinstallupdate command to replace the installed subsets with the subsets in this ECO1 kit. Alternatively, you can use the Tru64 UNIX setld command. If you have PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX subsets installed, then you must use the Tru64 UNIX setld command to deinstall PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX subsets and install the subsets in this ECO1 kit. The asuinstalludpate and setld commands are described in the following sections. The asuinstalludpate Command ---------------------------- You can use the asuinstalludpate command to automatically replace the installed ASU or ASDU subsets with a new version and, optionally, install additional ASU subsets. Your previous ASU or ASDU configuration, registry, and user and share databases are unaffected while the subsets are replaced and you do not need to use the asusetup command to configure the ASU software. The asuinstallupdate command is located in the directory where the ECO1 software was downloaded. To use the asuinstalludpate command, change to the directory where the ECO1 software was downloaded, and enter: # ./asuinstallupdate . [subset ...] The setld Command ----------------- Follow these steps to use the setld command to deinstall PATHWORKS, ASU, or ASDU subsets and install the ECO1 software: 1. Deinstall the PATHWORKS, ASU, or ASDU subsets. To display the installed PATHWORKS, ASDU, or ASU subsets, enter one of the following commands depending on the software installed: # /usr/sbin/setld -i | grep PATHWORKS | grep installed # /usr/sbin/setld -i | grep ASU | grep installed Deinstall the displayed subsets by entering the /usr/sbin/setld -d command followed by the name of each subset that you want to deinstall. For example, to deinstall the ASU Version 4.1 base, transport, and reference page subsets, enter: # /usr/sbin/setld -d ASUBASE410 ASUTRAN410 ASUMANPAGE410 While subsets are being deinstalled, you are prompted to save configuration files and the user account and share databases. Save these files and databases if you want to reuse them with the ECO1 software. 2. Install the ECO1 software by changing to the directory where the ECO1 software was downloaded, entering the following command, and following the instructions on the screen: # setld -l .
