NAME

uuname - Displays names of accessible systems

SYNOPSIS

uuname [-l] The uuname command displays a list of all the computers accessible to the local system; the list of systems is displayed on standard output.

OPTIONS

-l Displays the name of the local system.

DESCRIPTION

In order for a local system to communicate with a remote system, the remote system must support the UUCP protocol. The accessible remote systems are listed in the /usr/lib/uucp/Systems file. Before copying a file to another system with the uuto command or with the uucp command, issue uuname to determine the exact name of the remote system.

NOTES

The uuname utility is marked LEGACY in XCU Issue 5.

EXAMPLES

1. To identify the remote systems connected to the local system, enter: uuname The system responds with a list like the following: hera zeus merlin arthur 2. To identify the name of the local system, enter: uuname -l The system responds with the name of the local system: venus
