With most products, the list of things requested of the engineering team
is much longer than the list that they have the capacity to do.
Volumizer is no exception and choices need to be made based on value
delivered to both customers and SGI. Porting to additional platforms
(and the ongoing support) is one of the items on the list that we
consider. For different products, different priorities make sense. For
example, SGI has ported Performer to Linux and other SGI products will
be ported to Linux in the future.
Since Volumizer is currently distributed for free, then enhancements
that leverage SGI's hardware to provide unique value (e.g. better
performance) are attractive when looked at for their business value to
SGI.
