diskconfig(8X)
NAME
diskconfig - Manages the configuration of disk devices on the system
SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/diskconfig
OPTIONS
None.
DESCRIPTION
The Disk Configuration Manager application, diskconfig, is used by the
system administrator or UNIX(R) system manager to manage the configuration
of disk devices on the system. Use Disk Configuration Manager to:
· Modify disk configuration parameters
· Display attribute information for existing disks
· Create file system partitions on a disk
· Add disk alias names
You must have root privileges to run this application.
To start diskconfig from the graphical user interface do the following:
1. Click on the Application Manager icon on the CDE front panel.
2. Double click on the System_Admin application group icon.
3. Double click on the Configuration application group icon.
4. Double click on the Disk Configuration application icon.
To start diskconfig from the xterm, enter the following command from the
xterm:
/usr/sbin/diskconfig
Note
When running diskconfig from the command line, set the DISPLAY
environment variable to specify the display screen on which diskconfig
displays this application.
You can also use the -display option to set your display in the absence of
using the DISPLAY environment variable.
For additional information concerning the various components of the
application, refer to online help.
You can view the Disk Configuration online help volume without running the
application. To open the Disk Configuration help volume from the command
line, enter the following at the command line:
/usr/dt/bin/dthelpview -helpVolume \
/usr/dt/appconfig/help/C/DiskConfig.sdl
You can also view online help for this application by choosing Help from
the menu bar in the GUI version. The Help pulldown menu is displayed,
providing the following options:
Overview
Displays the Overview section of the help volume, which describes the
purpose of the application, how to run the application, and how to exit
the application.
Tasks
Displays the Tasks section of the help volume, which describes how to
use the application to perform various tasks.
Reference
Displays the Reference section of the help volume, which describes all
dialog boxes and dialog box components in the application.
On Item
Activates the On Item help functionality by displaying a question mark
as the cursor. When the cursor is positioned on any component in the
application and you click on the component, a Help Viewer window is
opened and the help for the selected component is displayed in the
window.
Using Help
Displays the standard CDE instructions on how to use the Help Viewer.
About
Displays version, copyright, and trademark information for the
application.
EXAMPLES
To add an alias name to a disk, perform the following steps:
1. In the Disk Configuration main window, select a disk from the
Available Devices list box.
2. Click on Define Configuration to open the Configure Partitions dialog
box.
3. Enter the assigned alias name in the Alias Name input text field.
4. Click on Commit to accept the change. A confirmation dialog box is
displayed.
5. Do one of the following:

Click on OK to continue the action. The confirmation box is closed
and the alias name is assigned to the selected device. The
Configure Partitions dialog box remains displayed.

Click on Cancel to stop the action.
