XSysAdmin(8)

NAME

XSysAdmin - Windows interface for account administration functions (Enhanced Security)

SYNOPSIS

/usr/tcb/bin/XSysAdmin

DESCRIPTION

Note The functions performed with the XSysAdmin program have been moved to another GUI. The XSysAdmin program in this release is an interface to the old /usr/tcb/bin/dxaccounts program. Support for XSysAdmin will be discontinued after this release. The account functions documented in this reference page are performed in the Common Desktop Environment (CDE) using the Account Manager program found under the Application Manager --> System Management Utilities. See the Account Manager's online help for more information. If you are using the DECwindows environment, use the new /usr/bin/X11/dxaccounts program (this is actually the Account Manager) to perform the accounts functions documented in this reference page. See the dxaccounts(8X) reference page and the Account Manager's online help for more information. The XSysAdmin program is the windowing interface used to add users and groups and to modify account parameters and templates (the system administrator role functions). To invoke this program, you must login as root. This interface program allows you to do the following: · Add a new user · Retire an account · Create a new group · Modify the account parameters of the person who performs the ISSO (Information System Security Officer) role. · Modify account templates. The person assigned the system administrator role generally cannot set account default values or modify the account parameters of a normal (non- ISSO) account. The program supports the following functions: Create User Accounts Allows you to create a new account. The home directory is created and the template files from /usr/skel are copied to the new home directory with a dot (.) prepended to the file. The new account assumes all default values specified in the system default database. These values are set by the ISSO. Retire User Accounts This allows you to retire a user account, including an ISSO account. Once retired, an account name can never be reused. You should only use this option if the account will never be reused; if you are unsure then you should use the Lock Account option. Create Groups Allows you to create a new group. Modify ISSO Accounts Allows you to select the account of the person performing the ISSO function and to modify the account parameters. These parameters will override any system-wide defaults that are specified. You can select the audit events that are audited for the user, the groups that the user may belong to, the login control parameters, and the password parameters. Modify Account Templates The XSysAdmin interface allows you to modify the account templates used to create accounts. An account template is actually an account that cannot be logged into. You can change password parameters, assign groups, audit events, and login controls.
