PROBLEM: (72636, 80141, 80506, 80529,
          80550, 81445) (PATCH ID: OSF510DX-003)
********
Problem: ( QAR 80550 )
The SysMan Station daemon (smsd) crashed intermittently, leaving connected
clients unusable. The crashes would typically occur on a cluster, particularly
in clusters with more than two nodes. Single node systems are susceptible,
but crashes are extremely rare in those cases. The highest probability of
a crash occuring is during:
- system startup time,
- midnight,
- reconfiguration of system components (e.g. adding or removing a disk).
Problem: ( QAR 80550 )
smsd would intermittently corrupt the files it uses to communicate with its
peers on other cluster members. When this happened, it was necessary to halt
smsd on each cluster node, remove the files, then restart smsd on each node.
This file corruption caused improperly rendered views in SysMan Station,
particularly in the Hardware View, and could lead to crashes of smsd or the
connected clients. Prior to this patch, if smsd consistently crashed on startup,
the data files were probably corrupted and had to be removed after halting all
smsd's in the cluster. The data files are located in /var/cluster/sms/*.
Once removed, the smsd on each node could be (re)started.
