Ponger version 1.9
Copyright (c) 1995, 1996 Savant Software

This release fixes a run time error reported at startup
when used with the Trumpet winsock. It also clean's up a
few annoyances.

Ponger was spawned by a need to keep dial-up Internet connections alive.
I noticed that if I was not active on my connection for about 7 minutes
my ISP's server would drop the connection.
This was aggravating when viewing large documents, since I might want
to continue on another doc.

By running Ponger after getting connected you will be able to keep
your connection alive without any activity on your part for as
long as you like ( barring phone line problems, of couse ).
Tests have run successfully for several hours.

Services supported:
-------------------
Pong uses a pseudo-ping to tag the host at the user selected
interval ( 60 sec is default ). I found that a real ping would not
work with all winsock dlls since they don't all support raw sockets.

The Daytime service hits the host and displays the returned
string. This tags the host but does something more useful than Pong.

The Time service sets the PC's clock and displays the time. Be sure to
set the TimeZone or your system clock will be off.

The registered version has autostart, autominimize, an alarm, and keeps track
of online charges for a session (but not across sessions).

Ponger.exe is a 16 bit client ( yes, it works fine w/ Win95 )
To install:
1) Just copy all the files in the zip to a dir of your choice.
2) Click on the settings option of the start menu.
3) Go thru the normal add sequence, using browse and select ponger.exe

Ponger is shareware.
I will be using the funds to enhance Ponger and
to develope other useful, low cost winsock client software.

TO THOSE EXPERIENCING TROUBLE:
Please submit any bug reports to.. savant@foothill.net

If you find GPF's please add the winspctr.exe to your startup group.
It will capture GPF's to 2 files winspct.log and winspctr.bin. PLEASE
email those two files to me and I will decipher the results.
Setup Winspector by double clicking it and setting all the check
boxes except the aux port one. Also set the overwrite radiobutton, so
only one set of files is generated at a time...
Thanks in advance to those willing to help....

TO THOSE RUNNING WIN95:
Get the 32 bit version Ponger32. Both versions are distributed in the
registered version.

Thanks for using Ponger.
Feel free to distribute this package in total and without modifications.
