HK- 001 Model Release 1.00

These models are HonestyWare. Please see below for details.

   Installation
   ============================

  Contained in the ZIP file, along with this readme, is the file "pakHK01.pk3. Copy this into the "baseq3" directory, under your Quake3 directory. This will probably be something like "c:\quake3\baseq3". There should already be one PK3 file there, called "pak0.pk3".

  Start Quake3 and go to the "Setup" menu option. Next, choose "Player", and finally click on the "Model" button at the lower right. You will be presented with a grid of player models. You should see the new model on the grid. If not, it will be on one of the other grid screens. To navigate the grids, use the two arrow buttons immediately below the grid. Select the new model, and click the "Back" button. That's it. Provided your oponents have also installed this model pack, they will see you as the new model. If they have not installed the pack, tell them to. Until they do, you will simply appear on their screen as "Visor".
  As soon as you have installed this model pack, you will be able to see other players who are using the HK-001 model in their full glory.

   How do I remove the models?
   ===========================

  Perhaps a better question would be "Why on earth would I want to remove the model?". To use a different model, just change your player model as described in section 2, selecting whichever model you would prefer to use. If you actually remove the model, you will be unable to see other players who are using the HK Model in their full glory - you will be forced to look at them as though they were Visor. Urgh! If you really are sure you want to remove the model, then read on....
  Simply delete the file you copied across when you installed the models. Make sure you delete the correct PK3 file, though, or you could potentially destory your installation of Quake3. That's not a good thing to happen.

   Something isn't working. Help!
   ==============================

  I'm afraid you're going to have to be more specific. If it's your monitor, I suggest you take it to a specialist repairer. If your computer is working, though, read on....
  If other players who are definitely using the HK Model appear as Visor on your screen, then you have not correctly installed the file, please ensure you have copied the file accross, and that it is in the "baseq3" subdirectory of your Quake3 installation. For example, if your Quake 3 program file is in "/usr/local/games/quake3/", then you should put the PK3 files into the directory "/usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3/". I've used Linux paths, but Mac users should understand what I mean. If you are sure the files are in the correct place, and you have not missed one, then eMail me: SadLoser@planetquake.com. I can't say that I'll be able to help, but I'll see what I can do.
  If you can see other people who are using the HK model, but other people say that you look like Visor, or some other model, then there are two possible reasons. Firstly, perhaps you aren't using the HK Model yourself. Use the Player Setup screen in Quake3 to check which model you are using. If this isn't the problem, then check that the person who is complaining has HK Model pack 1 installed as well. If they don't, then Quake3 won't be able to draw the HK Models on their screen. Tell them to get the model pack immediately :-)

  Licensing details
  =================

Definitions and Copyright Notice:
--------------------------------
  Here, the word "model" refers to the collection of mesh files, bitmap textures and .SKIN and .SHADER files required to display a representation of a character in Quake3. The words "custom skin" refer to a collection of bitmap textures and .SKIN and .SHADER files required to display a model with an alternative texture mapping in Quake3. A file which HK Developments initally provided is a file which may be downloaded from a link on the HK Developments web site. The files supplied consist of the file(s) which HK Developments initially provided, plus any logical files which are contained therein, including but not limited to the contents of any archives which are themselves supplied files. Any first-person references after this point refer to HK Developments as an entity, and not any particular person.

  These models are Copyright 1999 HK Developments. The conceptual designs of which they are a representation are Copyright 1996-1999 HK Developments. Any other files supplied are Copyright 1999 HK Developments.

HonestyWare:
-----------
  This model is provided without charge, and you may use it to play Quake3 for as long as you wish, and without restriction. However, we are releasing it under the concept of "HonestyWare". If you like the model, and you would like to see us continue to produce models and other add-ons for Quake3: Arena, we ask that you send us 5 or $8 as a token of your appreciation. You are under no obligation to do so, and you can play Quake3 with the model forever without giving us any money if you want. Of course, if you think the model is worth more, we would of course be happy to receive more. Equally, though, if you cannot afford 5, or you do not think the model is worth that much, we would be not be offended to receive less. That's why it's called HonestyWare. If you're honest, you'll send whatever you think the model is worth to you. If you never use it, it's worth nothing to you, so send nothing. If you paid $60 for Quake3, and now only ever use our model, then it's probably worth a bit more than $8.
  In return for your interest, we will eMail you as and when we release more models, skins and other items. Apart from this, you have nothing further to gain from registering your appreciation except a feeling of having done the honourable thing.

Skins:
-----
  You are free to develop custom skins for this model: in fact, we encourage you to - we'd love to hear about anything you are doing. Do not distribute any of our files with your skins, unless you have asked us for permission. You can download high-resolution skin layout guides from our web site to help you line up your textures. You can charge people money for these skins, or you can give them away. If you don't want to give the skins away, we would encourage you to follow the HonestyWare system, but you don't have to.

Derivative Models:
-----------------
  You may not produce works, including models, which could reasonably be described as "derivative" in relation to either the models or the conceptual designs which they represent, except as provided for in "Skins". If you wish to produce derivative works, you must first obtain our permission. Only SadLoser@planetquake.com and Slide@planetquake.com currently have the authority to grant this permission.

Distribution:
------------
  If you run a web site or an FTP site, you may keep copies of the file(s) which HK Developments initially provided in directory to which the public have access. For pedants out there, you are allowed to keep copies of the file(s) which HK Developments initially provided in a web proxy's cache even though such a cache may not be publically accessible, as long as retrieval from this location is transparent to the user. You may not, directly or indirectly, profit from others accessing these files from your site. Adverts on the same page are OK, but putting them behind some kind of membership check is banned, for example. You must supply only the files which HK Developments initially provided.
  If you want to include some or all of the files supplied on a physical distribution medium, you must first obtain our permission. For example, you must get permission for magazine cover CDs, FreeWare\ShareWare\HonestyWare compilation CDs, etc. Only SadLoser@planetquake.com and Slide@planetquake.com currently have the authority to grant this permission.

Breaches:
--------
  These rules are designed to be in keeping with the HonestyWare ethos. We believe them to be reasonable. If you believe you know of a case of someone breaching these rules, please eMail one of the founding members of HK Developments: SadLoser@planetquake.com or slide@planetquake.com
  A list of magazines, etc. who have been granted the right to include the files supplied is on our web page.
  We hope everyone will respect these rules, and we reserve the right to take whatever action seems most appropriate if we discover that you are in breach of them.

HK Developments?
----------------

  HK Developments is a small company, consisting of two members. Others work for us on specific tasks, from time to time, but are not members as far as copyright considerations are involved. They have not contributed to the files in this model pack in any way.
