exim is a message transfer agent (

MTA) developed at the University of Cambridge for use on Unix systems connected to the Internet. In style it is similar to Smail 3, but its facilities are more extensive, and in particular it has some defences against mail bombs and unsolicited junk mail in the form of options for refusing messages from particular hosts, networks, or senders. For more details see the exim web site and the enclosed documentation.This package has many options enabled: perl code can be used in Exim's string manipulation language; dbm, cdb, OpenLDAP, MySQL, nis (a.k.a yp), and PostgreSQL lookups are supported; TLS (openssl), PAM, and tcp_wrappers support is enabled. The official exim home page has extensive documentation explaining how to use all these features.
Security note: exim is a setuid root program.
