apache2-2.0.46: description + notes

Apache
HTTP Server Project.

The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source HTTP server for various modern desktop and server operating systems, such as UNIX and Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and extensible server which provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards.

To facilitate migration from earlier releases of Apache, this package will not replace currently installed Freeware Apache 1.x packages.

SSL NOTES: This package includes mod_ssl.

  • To use SSL, the Apache startup script in /etc/init.d/ should be changed from performing "apachectl start" to "apachectl startssl".

  • Please read the Apache SSL/TLS Encryption FAQ, particularly the item on entropy. There is presently no /dev/random on pre-6.5.19 IRIX, and the mod_ssl builtin PRNG seed usually does not suffice. Alternatives such as the Entropy Gathering Daemon or the truerand program appear to work well.

Also note that mod_auth_digest requires /dev/random, which only exists on IRIX 6.5.19 and later systems. It will not work on older versions of IRIX.
