turn-1.1: description + notes
Turn is a multi-threaded, threading newsreader. (That is, it has multiple light-weight processes, and it groups articles together in trees based on the References line) with some very special features.
- Threads and authors can be marked as important or junk (to be ignored).
- The very powerful command Catch up on old, unimportant threads in newsgroup can be used in groups with lots of noise and little content.
- The vast majority of the pictures, movies and sounds posted to the various
alt.binaries
newsgroups can be displayed with a single keystroke.- URL's for the World Wide Web appearing in article text are automatically highlighted. A single click brings up that document in your favourite web browser.
- Software distributions in the form "{
inst,swmgr} -f foo"
appearing in article text are automatically highlighted. A single click brings up the SoftwareManager to install that distribution.One of the main goals of turn is to make the user wait as little as possible for the newsreader.
To auto-install this package, go back and click on the respective install icon.
