sed (Stream EDitor) copies files (standard input default) to the standard output, edited according to a script of commands.

This is the GNU version of sed, which doesn't have any limitations on the input (unlimited line length, 8-bit cleanliness) so there's no danger it'll silently truncate your lines if they exceed a certain limit.
