Python is an interpreted object-oriented programming language suitable (amongst other uses) for distributed application development, scripting, numeric computing and system testing. Python is often compared to Tcl, Perl, Java, JavaScript, Visual Basic or Scheme. To find out more about what Python can do for you, point your browser to http://www.python.org/.

    configure --prefix=/usr/freeware/ 
              --with-threads 
              --libdir=/usr/freeware/lib32

This version is built with SSL support in the socket library (so fw_openssl is a prereq). fw_readline, fw_libz, fw_tk and fw_gdbm are required if the corresponding modules are (optionally) installed.

Note: The interpreter is called python2 not python (python is Python 1.5.2). Both maybe installed on a system at the same time with no interference.

The exitop prints some warnings, these are the result of running the compileall.py script and can be ignored.

This release has corrected the files-are-direcoties bug and added the cd and al modules. The tools source is also now part of the distribution (/usr/freeware/lib/python2.1/Tools), but not enabled.

If you want to use the compiler (for example) module, you will need to (you may need privilege):-

cd /usr/freeware/lib/python2.1/Tools/compiler
/usr/freeware/bin/python2 setup.py install
