libgphoto2-2.1.1: description + notes

libgphoto2 is a free, redistributable library that can be used by applications to access digital cameras. libgphoto2 supports almost 300 different digital camera models from various vendors.

Note: Cameras auto detect mode may not work on non-USB connections.

Note: Standard serial ports are owned by default by root, hence a normal user cannot run the applications based on libgphoto2. You can change protections with ioconfig, but may compromise security if other devices are connected to the serial ports.

Developers intending to use this distribution for application development should be sure to read the information in FAQ 3.8.
