The appearance and interface are similar to some popular e-mail clients for Windows, such as Outlook Express, Becky!, and Datula. The interface is also designed to emulate the mailers on Emacsen, and almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. You'll figure out the usage if you have ever used some e-mail clients for Windows, or Mew or Wanderlust.
The messages are managed by MH format, and you'll be able to use it together with another mailer based on MH format (like Mew). You can also utilize fetchmail or/and procmail, and external programs on receiving (like inc or imget).
Sylpheed-Claws is the so-called bleeding edge branch of Sylpheed which adds many more features over the main Sylpheed branch.
If you are upgrading from the old version of Sylpheed, please check the README file and scripts contained in /usr/freeware/share/sylpheed/tools for hints of converting old style filters and newscache's, etc.

The following changes have been made to the official Sylpheed-Claws release:
- A new feature was added that causes Sylpheed-Claws to scan certain user-selectable folders after every incorporation. This means that you can use procmail to put mail into arbitrary folders and Sylpheed will discover them. The code for this feature has been submitted to the Sylpheed-Claws maintainers, but is yet to be accepted or rejected. This feature is turned off by default. To turn this feature on, enable the option in the Receive tab of Common Preferences, and then activate the per folder flag in the folder properties.
- Windows and dialogs will appear at the mouse cursor position rather than in the center of the screen. On my dual-head O2, the official Sylpheed-Claws would place windows stradling the two screens.
- The included perl scripts have been changed to use perl from /usr/freeware/bin.
