The Apache project is a collaborative software development effort aimed at creating a robust, commercial-grade, featureful, and freely-available source code implementation of an HTTP (Web) server. The project is jointly managed by a group of volunteers located around the world, using the Internet and the Web to communicate, plan, and develop the server and its related documentation. These volunteers are known as the Apache Group. In addition, hundreds of users have contributed ideas, code, and documentation to the project.
This distribution also includes mod_ssl. See httpd.conf and the mod_ssl documentation for details. If you want to use mod_ssl you will need to modify the httpd.conf file and the /etc/init.d/fw_apache script to perform an apachectl startssl.
This distribution also includes mod_perl. PLEASE NOTE that mod_perl has not been tested! Only the installation has been tested; additionally, upon installation you will need to be sure that the configuration file /usr/freeware/apache/etc/httpd.conf.N is copied or renamed to httpd.conf in the same directory.
If you want to build and add more Apache modules such as PHP, use the "--with-apxs=/usr/freeware/apache/sbin/apxs" option with the module's configure script.
Please note that there is an inst-able build of PHP 4.2.3 on the SGI Freeware site that is compatible with this release of Apache.
