OS/2 TCP/IP V4 Stack RSU Page

Overview

This page provides an automated update (via RSU) of your OS/2 TCP/IP V4 stack, DLL's, and stack utilities. This is a consolidation of IBM service fixes to the stack since OS/2 Warp V4 GA.

Requirements: To apply this update, you must have one of the following installed:

• OS/2 Warp V4 TCP/IP, MPTS Version 5.10, CSD WRx8400
• OS/2 Comm Server, MPTS Version 5.11, CSD WRx8410
• MPTS FixPak WRx8415
• MPTS FixPak WRx8421 (superceded WRx8415)
  Note: WRx8421 is the latest MPTS FixPak for the OS/2 TCP/IP V4 stack.
  • The FixPak diskettes may be downloaded from the web. Start with the MPTS fixes by language page. Select a language link and then select the wrx8421 conv link to access the FixPak diskette images.
  • Alternatively, the FixPak may be obtained either electronically or on 3.5" diskettes by contacting Software Solutions Services at 1-800-992-4777.

Notes:

• You can ignore the installation instructions in the read.me file since all updates will be done automatically.
• If you have trouble viewing the read.me file with WebExplorer, configure a viewer (e.g., e.exe) for Plain Text files. You have to restart some versions of WebExplorer for this change to take effect.

Installation

1. Apply the Software Update
   If you encounter a problem installing the update:
   • Did you immediately get an error processing the latestv4.rsu file? If so, you probably need to download rsuinst.exe and follow the directions to enhance your WebExplorer.
   • Did you get a failure on the ftp of v4rsu.zip?
     • The ftp server may be down or busy - try again later.
     • Are you connecting to the Internet from behind a firewall?
       • If you have OS/2 Warp V4 or later installed and you have access to a socks server, activate the socks support on your workstation using the TCP/IP Configuration Notebook. This will allow RSUINST to get the update file (via FTP) through the firewall.
       • If you have Warp Connect or Warp Server installed, or you don't have access to a socks server, you can apply the update manually.
   • Did you get a message box saying "Wrong Config!"? The update program determines the drives and directories to be updated by looking in the PATH environment variable for the first instance of the \MPTN, \TCPIP, and \IBMCOM directories. If any of these directories are missing from your PATH environment variable, you have an incorrectly configured system and the update cannot be done.
   • Did you get a message box saying you have the wrong MPTS version number or wrong MPTS CSD level? See the requirements above.
     The update program verifies the current MPTS level by checking SYSLEVEL.MPT in your \MPTN drive and directory, as determined by the first instance of \MPTN in your PATH environment variable. If you have multiple levels of MPTS installed on your workstation, be sure you boot with the PATH environment variable pointing to the correct \MPTN directory for the update. (Also, the correct \TCPIP and \IBMCOM directories.)

2. Shutdown and reboot your system.
   Your system should start normally and all file changes will be in effect.

3. When your system has completed startup, you can verify that the TCP/IP stack has been updated and is running by issuing the following command from an OS/2 command prompt:
   INETVER
   The following should be displayed:
   Inet Version: 4.02t

If you cannot apply the update automatically, you can install it manually. Download the update file, v4rsu.zip, store it in a temporary directory, and unzip it. Enter the following command to perform the update:
INSTAPAR
You can delete all the files in the temporary directory when the update is complete. Reboot and verify the installation of the stack as described above.
