OS/2 TCP/IP V3.x Stack RSU Page
Overview
This page provides an automated update (via RSU) of your
OS/2 Warp V3.x (Warp Connect or Warp Server) TCP/IP stack.
This is a consolidation of IBM service
fixes to the stack since MPTS FixPak WR08210.
The following are the requirements for installing this update:
- MPTS FixPak
WR08210
Note: WR08210 has been superceded by MPTS FixPak
WRx8421.
If you decide not to install WRx8421 at this time,
you may proceed with this update to install the latest V3.x stack.
Note: If you've installed the MPTS for OS/2 Comm Server
(version 5.11, CSD level WR08410),
you have a TCP/IP V4 stack.
- Either TCP/IP FixPak UN00067 or
UN00959
(preferred)
To see information about the latest APAR fix to the Warp Connect stack,
see the read.me
file for the APAR.
To see information about the latest APAR fix to the Warp Server stack,
see the read.me.
file for the APAR.
Notes:
- You can ignore the installation instructions in these read.me
files since all updates will be done automatically.
- If you have trouble reading these files with WebExplorer, configure
a viewer (e.g., e.exe) for Plain Text files. You have to restart some
versions of WebExplorer for this change to take effect.
Installation
- Apply the Software Update
If you encounter a problem installing the update:
- Did you immediately get an error processing the
latestv3.rsu file? If so, you probably need to
download rsuinst.exe
and follow the directions to enhance your WebExplorer.
- Did you get a failure on the ftp of v3rsu.zip?
- The ftp server may be down or busy - try again later.
- Are you connecting to the Internet from behind a firewall?
You'll have to apply the update manually.
- Did you get a message box saying "Wrong Config!"?
The update program determines the drives and
directories to be updated
by looking in the PATH environment variable for the first instance of the
\MPTN, \TCPIP, and \IBMCOM directories. If any of these directories
are missing from your PATH environment variable, you have an
incorrectly configured system and the update cannot be done.
- Did you get a message box saying you have the
wrong MPTS or TCP/IP CSD level? See the requirements above.
- If you've installed Comm Server MPTS
(ver 5.11, CSD WR08410) or MPTS FixPak WRx8421, you must
install the latest V4 TCP/IP stack
instead of the latest V3.x stack.
- The update program verifies the current MPTS and TCP/IP levels by checking
SYSLEVEL.MPT in your \MPTN drive and directory
and SYSLEVEL.TCP in your \TCPIP drive and directory,
as determined by
the first instance of \MPTN and \TCPIP in your PATH environment variable.
If you have multiple levels of MPTS or TCP/IP installed on your workstation,
be sure you boot with the PATH environment variable pointing to the
correct \MPTN and \TCPIP directories for the update.
(Also, the correct \IBMCOM directory.)
- Shutdown and reboot your system.
Your system should start normally and all file changes will be in
effect.
- When your system has completed startup, you can verify that the
TCP/IP stack has been updated and
is running by issuing the following command from an OS/2
command prompt:
The following should be displayed:
Manual Installation of the Update
If you cannot apply the update automatically, you can install it manually.
Download the update file, v3rsu.zip,
storing it in a temporary directory, and unzip it.
Enter the following command to perform the update:
You can delete all the files in the temporary directory when the update
is complete. Reboot and verify the installation of the stack as described
above.
