Installing SCO OpenServer 5 on IBM Server 720 
         with Multiple Mylex PCI DAC 960 Raid Adapters
                                        
BEFORE YOU START

Hardware Configuration:
1) ***Important*** Both of the Mylex PCI Raid adapters must be plugged into
the primary PIC bus which is consists of the two slots closest
to the bridge card.

2) ***Important*** The backplane that the CD ROM is attached to must be
cabled to the PCI adapter closest to the bridge card.

Software Needed:

The following software is required.  It may be downloaded from the IBM
PC Co. BBS at (919) 517-0001 or from the IBM FTP site at FTP.PCCO.IBM.COM.

Already    SCO OpenServer 5 boot diskette, CD, Release Supplement "C"
Provided      diskette, license, and SMP license.
 
SETTING UP THE RAID DEVICES

1) Place the Mylex PCI DAC 960 Raid configuration diskette in the floppy
   drive and boot the machine.
2) Select option #2
3) Select option #2 (RAID Controller #1)
4) Select option #3 (Create/delete array)
5) Select option #4 (Create disk array)
6) Select drives, then press esc
7) Repeat as necessary
8) Select option #5 (Define Logical Drive)
9) Answer questions as necessary.
10) Select option #4 (Initialize/Synchronize)
11) Select option #2 (Initialize logical drive)
12) Select drives. Press enter. Confirm Yes.
13) When complete select option #4 (Exit).
14) Select option #6 (Exit)
15) Select option #8 (Exit)
16) Select option #3 (RAID Controller #2)
17) Repeat instructions for controller #1
18) Select option #4 (Exit)


LOADING SCO

1) Place the SCO N0 pre-boot diskette bd.r1 in the floppy drive and re-boot  
   the machine.
2) At the UNIX "Boot:" prompt
3) Place the SCO OpenServer 5 boot Diskette in the floppy drive.
4) Place the SCO OpenServer 5 CD in the CD ROM drive.
5) Type "defbootstr ahslink=mdac" and press enter.
6) When prompted insert the Mylex DAC 960 device driver v4.03 diskette and
   press enter.
7) When prompted type "r" and press enter.
8) Reinsert the Boot diskette and press enter.
9) Reinstall the Mylex DAC 960 device driver v4.03 diskette and press 
   enter.
10) Instructions for the Standard SCO install.
11) Identify installation media prompt.
12) Press space bar.
13) Use up arrow to select SCSI CD ROM.
14) Press Enter.
15) Change SCSI ID.
16) Use down arrow to select SCSI ID: field.
17) Press space bar.
18) Use down arrow to select "6".
19) Press enter.
20) Tab to "Accept above Choices" and press enter.
21) Select "OK"
22) Follow the standard SCO Install instructions. See SCO install book.


LOADING PATCHES AND FIXES

When you see the message that says:
 
                **  Safe to Power Off   **
                          -or-
              ** Press Any Key to Reboot  **
 
1) Place the N0 bd.r1 pre-boot diskette in the floppy drive and press any
   key.
2) At the UNIX "Boot:" prompt, remove the N0 bd.r1 pre-boot diskette from
   the floppy drive, type: 
           hd(40)unix dump=hd(41) swap=hd(41) root=hd(42)  
   then press enter.
3) When the message: 
        "Type CONTROL-d to proceed with normal startup, (or
            give root password for system maintenance):"  
   is displayed, type the root password and press enter.
4) At the UNIX "#" prompt type "custom"
5) At the Software Manager screen press "s".
6) Press "p" for Patch Management.
7) Place the SCO PC Server 720 Supplement disk supp.r1 in the floppy drive
   and press "a".
8) Press enter to select host.
9) Press enter to select Floppy Disk Drive 0.
10) Select Full.
11) Press enter to select OK.
12) At the Software Manager screen press "s".
13) Press  "i" for Install New.
14) Press enter to select host.
15) Press down arrow to select SCSI CD ROM and press enter.
16) Press enter to select SCSI CD-ROM.
17) Use down arrow to select "SCO Symmetrical Multiprocessing Support" and
    press enter.
18) Select Full.
19) Enter License numbers. Press enter.
20) Press enter to select OK.
21) Repeat for additional CPU's, Otherwise select "No".
22) Press enter to select OK.
23) At the Software Manager screen press "s".
24) Press "p" for Patch Management.
25) Place diskette #1 of the SCO Release Supplement "D" disks (obtained
    from SCO) in the floppy drive and press "a".
26) Press enter to select host.
27) Press enter to select Floppy Disk Drive 0.
28) Select Full.
29) Place diskette #2 of the SCO Release Supplement "D" disks in the floppy
    drive and press enter.
30) Place diskette #3 of the SCO Release Supplement "D" disks in the floppy
    drive and press enter.
31) Ignore Verification Error screen by pressing enter to select continue.
32) Place diskette #1 of the SCO Release Supplement "D" disks in the floppy
    drive again and press enter.
33) At all the WARNING messages type "y" and press enter.
34) Press enter to continue.
35) Press enter to select OK.
36) Press enter again to select OK.
37) At the Software Manager screen press "s".
38) Place the Corollary SLS diskette in the floppy and press  "i" for
    Install New.
39) Press enter to select host.
40) Press enter to select Floppy Disk Drive 0.
41) Select Full.
42) Press enter.
43) Press enter.
44) Press enter.
45) Press enter.
46) Type "n" when asked if you want to relink the kernel now. Press enter.
47) Press enter to select OK.
48) At the Software Manager screen press enter.
49) Type "x".
50) At the UNIT # prompt
51) Remove all floppies from the machine.
52) Type "init 6" and press enter.
52) At the UNIX "Boot:" prompt wait until the machine boots automatically.
