1.0 Installing IBM Netfinity 5500 5500M10 5500M20 Diagnostics
______________________________________________

The diagnostics on the IBM Netfinity 5500 5500M10 5500M20 are located in the ROM.
In order to update the version of diagnostics in ROM two flash
diskettes are required. The first diskette image is on a diskette
with the label "IBM Netfinity 5500 5500M10 5500M20 Diagnostics Flash Update
Diskette 1 of 2". The second diskette image is on a diskette with
the label "IBM Netfinity 5500 Diagnostics Flash Update Diskette 2 of 2".

The procedure to update diagnostics is as follows:

   1. Insert the "IBM Netfinity 5500 5500M10 5500M20 Diagnostics Flash Update Diskette
      1 of 2" into drive A.
   2. Start up or restart your IBM Netfinity 5500 5500M10 5500M20 server.
   3. The system will boot off of the diskette and present
a window which allows you the option to flash various
options. Choose "2 - Update Diagnostic". Then choose
      "1 = United States".
   4. After loading the image from the diskette the system
will prompt you to enter the second flash diskette which
is labeled "IBM Netfinity 5500 5500M10 5500M20 Diagnostics Flash Update Diskette
2 of 2" and hit enter.
   5. After the images are loaded from diskette the system will
ask you to wait while the images are flashed into ROM.
When this is complete you will be prompted to remove the
diskette and hit return to reboot the system.

Version Changes
------- ------------------------
1.00 First release.
1.02 Changes in LED and Hot-Swap PCI Tests: Modified to
work with current and all previous BIOS versions.
2.00 Major feature enhancements include addition of an
ECC test for system memory, tests for serveRAID
adapters, enhanced cache test, removed prompt for
Ethernet wrap test so test can be looped without user
intervention, removed customization of serial and
parallel port I/O settings and only allow USB test
when no USB devices are attached.
2.01 The following bug fixes were made:
           - Test progress status is now updated on remote terminals
           - Fixed problem in which, when running diagnstics around
midnight, the date would not roll over to the next day
properly leaving the system date one day old
           - Fixed problem in which Internal Phy wrap tests would
erroneously fail if run with an Ethernet wrap plug
           - Fixed problem that when running Quick Tests remotely the
remote connection would be dropped. It is now OK to run
Quick Tests from a remote terminal.
           - CD-ROM test can now be aborted more reliably by the user
              when pressing ESC.
           - On-line documentation has been cleaned up.
3.00 The first version of the Netfinity 5500 5500M10 5500M20 diagnostics which is only being
released for the Model 20. The following features were added:
           - SCSI Tape Drive Diagnostics

           - Added support for testing a single Ethernet Fault Tolerant 10/100
              adapter (Part Number 08L3341)
           - Added support for testing of ServeRAID III adapters
The following known issues exist in version 3.00:
           - Date rollback problem: After running the cache test if the
diagnostics are kept open without rebooting across midnight
a problem may occur in which the date does not roll forward
and the time is corrupted. You should check the date and time
after running diagnostics under these circumstances to make sure
that the date and time are correct.
           - Cache test hang with MOST: The cache test may hang when run from
a MOST terminal through the service processor serial port.
3.01 The following bug fixes were made:
           - The "Date rollback problem" and "Cache test hang with MOST" are fixed.
           - Real-time logging to a printer, device PRN, works now.
           - Fixed a problem in which the VRM LED for the alternate processor would
be lit when running the Alternate Processor test on a single processor
system. The VRM LED is no longer lit in this case.

             cache ON
