1.0 What's new in this update.
_________________________________

1.1 For Netfinity Server models 5000, 5500, 5500-M10, 5500-M20 or
5600 running OS/2 or Novell NetWare.

Improved driver interrupt handling during system startup in Novell
     Netware and OS/2.

The service processor device drivers are loaded shortly after an
operating system boots up, and there may be an opportunity for spurious
interrupts to occur before the driver and service processor hardware are
fully initialized. To better handle the rare occurrances of these
interrupts, improvements have been made to the initialization piece of
the NetWare and OS/2 service processor drivers.

1.2 For Netfinity Server models 5000, 5500, 5500-M10, 5500-M20,
     5600, 7000-M10 or 8500R running Windows 2000.

Service processor device drivers have been added to support Windows 2000.
Please refer to the installation instructions below for installing these
     drivers on Windows 2000.

2.0 Stopping the Netfinity Manager application program.
__________________________________________________________

If the Netfinity Manager application program is already running on your
Netfinity Server it must be stopped prior to installing any of these
device drivers. The following examples show how to do this.

     For NT and OS/2:
Close any open Netfinity windows. Then at the command prompt
       type NETFBASE SHUTDOWN

     For NetWare:
       Unload the Netfinity Support Program.

     For SCO UnixWare:
       Type: netfbase.exe SHUTDOWN
(NOTE: This is a case-sensitive statement.)

For more details on how to shutdown the Netfinity application please
       refer to the Netfinity documentation.

3.0 System Management Device Driver installation instructions.
_________________________________________________________________

By following the installation instructions shown below, the correct System
Management Device Driver will be automatically installed onto your
     Netfinity Server.

If the installation is being done from this diskette, insert this diskette
into the server's floppy diskette drive, bring up a command prompt window,
screen, or session, and enter one of the following commands. The examples
shown below assume the floppy drive is A:.

If the installation is being done from the Advanced Systems Management
Utilities CD-ROM, insert this CD-ROM into the server's CD-ROM drive,
bring up a command prompt window, screen, or session, and enter one of
the following commands. The examples shown below assume the CD ROM
     drive is D:.

     For OS/2, type:
A:\OS2\SETUP (if installation is from a diskette)
            or
       D:\DD\OS2\SETUP (if installation is from a CD-ROM)
Follow the directions that appear on the screen

     For Windows 2000:
For the following list of servers with the Netfinity Advanced System
Management Processor hardware, correct driver installation will
require that Windows 2000 be installed after ensuring that the
system BIOS is at the following level or higher:

                Netfinity 5000: MOJT36A
                Netfinity 5500: KIJT73A
                Netfinity 5500 M10: KIJT73A
                Netfinity 5500 M20: KQJT19A

If a BIOS update is required, use the latest BIOS image files and
instructions for installation, which can be found at
       http://www.pc.ibm.com/support.

The Windows 2000 System Management Driver files are included on the
ServerGuide installation CDs for Windows 2000 and will be installed
automatically when Windows 2000 is installed. Installation from the
install diskette will only be required if Windows 2000 is installed
without using ServerGuide, or if the System Management Driver is
       manually uninstalled.

For installation under Windows 2000, you can choose from one of the
       following two methods.

       1) These instructions should be followed when you choose to use
the automatic initiation of the "Hardware Wizard" by Windows.

(1.1) Click "Next" on the "Found New Hardware Wizard" screen.

(1.2) The hardware will automatically be detected as an
"Unknown" device for the Netfinity Advanced System
Management Processor, or "Other PCI bridge device"
for the Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI
                Adapter hardware.

(1.3) Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device"
                and click "Next".

(1.4) Insert the floppy drive / CD-ROM and check the appropriate
medium (floppy / CD) on the screen. Click "Next" to
                continue.

(1.5) Hardware wizard will find the matching driver for your
                hardware (asmpa.inf or asmp.inf).

(1.6) Follow instructions on screen until the "Finish" message
appears. Click "Finish" to complete the installation of
                the driver.

       2) These instructions should be followed when you choose to either
update the driver, or choose to install the driver manually.

(2.1) Open the "Device Manager". This may be done by right
clicking on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop,
selecting "Properties", and then selecting "Device Manager".

(2.2) In the "System Devices", look for an "Unknown" device or
"Other PCI bridge device". The hardware has automatically
been detected as an "Unknown" device for the Netfinity
Advanced System Management Processor, or "Other PCI bridge
device" for the Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI
Adapter hardware. The driver must be installed for
                this detected device.

(2.3) Highlight the appropriate device and right click to select
"Properties". Click on the "Driver" tab, and select
                "Update Driver".

(2.4) Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device"
                and click "Next".

(2.5) Insert the floppy drive / CD-ROM and check the appropriate
medium (floppy / CD) on the screen. Click "Next" to
                continue.

(2.6) Hardware wizard will find the matching driver for your
                hardware (asmpa.inf or asmp.inf).

(2.7) Follow instructions on screen until the "Finish" message
appears. Click "Finish" to complete the installation of
                the driver.

     For Windows NT 4.0:
There are 2 methods you can choose from when installing the Windows NT4
       System Management Drivers.

       1) The unattended method will install the drivers and accept default
values for any screen prompts that would otherwise appear. The user
will be prompted if an error occurs during installation.

       For unattended installation type:
A:\NT\SETUP -q (if installation is from a diskette)
           or
D:\DD\NT\SETUP -q (if installation is from a CD ROM)

       2) The normal method will prompt the user with instructions and wait
for the user to answer before continuing with the installation.

       For normal installation type:
A:\NT\SETUP (if installation is from a diskette)
           or
D:\DD\NT\SETUP (if installation is from a CD ROM)
Follow the directions that appear on the screen

     For Novell NetWare type:
LOAD A:\NETWARE\SETUP (if installation is from a diskette)
               or
LOAD D:\DD\NETWARE\SETUP (if installation is from a CD ROM)
Follow the directions that appear on the screen

     For SCO/UnixWare:
There are two methods you can choose from when installing the
       SCO/UnixWare System Management Drivers.

       1) Using SCO/UnixWare's package utility:
Launch the scoadmin software installer. Click to
view the diskette or CD ROM (for example DISK_A or CD-ROM_1) and
then install the package that gets displayed.

       2) From a command prompt :

pkgadd -d diskette1 (if installation is from a diskette)
              or
pkgadd -d cdrom1 (if installation is from a CD ROM)

Follow the directions that appear on the screen
