NFS has been used in all sorts of interesting ways. For instance, compact devices used NFS in their tiny CD-ROM appliance that would convert a CD jukebox from a local attach device into a network attach device. For an application like this, printer services are crazy, and even things like LDAP and NIS may not be needed. But at the same time, it definitely does make sense to specify that bundle of related services that are necessary to make a more traditional read/write storage server useful. Dave
