That's a question for which I have never seen any indication that there is a simple solution, or one that can be encompassed totally within a file access protocol. To make this as concrete as possible: I have, in front of me, a desktop machine with no copy of Frame Maker installed, and with no copy of Frame Maker anywhere in my organization. Furthermore, it is running an operating system and/or processor for which no version of Frame Maker is available, and it has no mechanism whatsoever to allow a remote machine to display in a window on its desktop or get commands from my keyboard or mouse. I attempt to access a file, over the internet, that is a Frame Maker document. How can I access this Frame Maker document from my machine? What is the sequence of NFS V4 operations that will allow me to read this document? The mere fact that it may be inconvenient that one cannot simply click on the document and read it does not mean that NFS V4 is in any way obliged to solve this problem, or even that an acceptable solution necessarily *exists*.
