NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: Automated PNW DOS update README FOR: PNWUPD.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: PERSONAL NetWare 1.0 ABSTRACT: This file contains UPDATED.BAT, which is an automated process to install the DOS update files for Personal NetWare, VLM Client, and NE2000. The files it installs were extracted from P10U05.EXE and VLMUP4.EXE. If PNWUPD.EXE is used to update the Personal NetWare DOS files, then it is NOT necessary to download P10U05.EXE or VLMUP4.EXE. MS WINDOWS: PNWUPD.EXE does NOT include the update files for the NetWare Client for MS Windows. Use PNWUPW.EXE to install the client update files for MS Windows. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES EVERY EFFORT WITHIN ITS MEANS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOM: Some Personal NetWare customers have experienced difficulty with installing the Personal NetWare and NetWare Client update files contained in P10U05.EXE and VLMUP4.EXE. They have asked Novell for an automated installation routine. SOLUTION: Novell has created file PNWUPD.EXE which contains files from both P10U05.EXE and VLMUP4.EXE. It also has a batch file, UPDATED.BAT which will copy the relevant DOS update files for Personal NetWare, the VLM Client, and NE2000 to the local machines hard drive. If PNWUPD.EXE is used to update the DOS files on a Personal NetWare machine, then P10U05.EXE and VLMUP4.EXE DO NOT have to be downloaded. MS WINDOWS USERS: PNWUPD.EXE only contains the DOS update files, it DOES NOT contain the update files for MS Windows. If MS Windows is used on any of the machines on the network, download PNWUPW.EXE and use it to update the NetWare Client files for MS Windows. Create unique directory for the update file on the server's hard drive, i.e.: MD C:\PNW_UP 2. Download or Copy PNWUPD.EXE to the unique directory, i.e.: COPY PNWUPD.EXE C:\PNW_UP 3. Go in to the unique directory, i.e.: CD\PNW_UP 4. Run PNWUPD.EXE to extract it's files, i.e.: enter PNWUPD 5. Run UPDATED, i.e.: enter UPDATED USAGE: UPDATED (PNW destination path, INFO, or HELP) If PNW was installed to the default directory of C:\NWCLIENT, then enter UPDATED with no additional parameters. If PNW was NOT installed to the default directory, then enter UPDATED followed by the directory path to the PNW software. EXAMPLE: If PNW was installed to D:\NET, then enter: UPDATED D:\NET. Other valid UPDATED options: HELP and INFO HELP shows syntax and usage. INFO displays additional information. All nodes on the network need to be updated. This can most effectively be accomplished by having all users map to the server's hard drive and use the same UPDATED batch file. After a machine has been updated, reboot it so the new files will be loaded. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
