TITLE: Norton Utilities 8 Not Showing Local Drives DOCUMENT ID: TID020966 DOCUMENT REVISION: 49 DATE: 05Jul95 ALERT STATUS: Yellow README FOR: NA NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION: PERSONAL NETWARE V1.0 ABSTRACT: NA --------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. If a Personal NetWare server is loaded NDD, Diskedit and Speedisk won't show, thus not allowing you to work on local drives anymore. First thought this is a bug with Norton Utilities 8, but after some debugging, found out that all these components specifically check for an installed server (2F B800), and disable any access to local drives. TROUBLESHOOTING: Although it's intended not to allow modifying files on local disks, Speedisk shows a stacked drive, which can obviously be a shared directory as well. As this might be considered as a bug, it was reported to Symantec. It might not be convenient, but it's a safe way to prevent data corruption. This applies to NetWare Lite 1.1 as well. SOLUTION: Unload server and rerun utilities --------------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
