A: The NET SAVE command is used to save your current network environment, including the drive letter mappings, captured printer ports, and DOS environment variables into a login script or batch file. NET SAVE /S When NET SAVE /S is executed two things happen: First, a check is made if this is a PNW SERVER *and if so* then a MAIL directory is created under the C:\NWCNTL directory. Then the user's unique id (a unique 8 digit hex number) is created (if not already) as a directory underneath the MAIL directory. Within this directory the 'login script' is saved as PNWLOGIN.SCR. When the user next logs in, this "login script" will re-establish the current connections. NET SAVE The exact same information is saved as when a NET SAVE /S is done. The "login script information" is saved to PNWLOGIN.BAT (batch file) in the directory where the command was executed. This batch file is not run automatically when the user next logs in, but can be called from a batch file (such as the STARTNET.BAT) or ran from the command line. NOTE: NET SAVE /S cannot be used on a client only workstation. Because there is no PNW SERVER loaded and no C:\NWCNTL directory, the automatic login functionality provided through this command is not available. But, if the user simply does a NET SAVE and then in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or STARTNET.BAT executes NET LOGIN @PNWLOGIN.BAT after loading the network, the same type of automatically running the script will occur. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
