ISSUE:

DacEasy And Personal NetWare

ABSTRACT:

Novell has tested DacEasy with Personal NetWare 1.0 (PNW) and found
them to be fully compatible.

This document describes several configuration items for the PNW
server on which the DacEasy software is installed.

Contact DacEasy Technical Support for installation information for a
peer-to-peer network.

In this document, the following network description will be used for
the examples.

-o- There are four computers on the network.

-o- DacEasy is installed on the SERVER1_PC machine.

-o- All users run DacEasy off of the F: drive letter.

-o- four users could be in DacEasy at the same time.

SERVER CONFIGURATION:

1. EDIT the CONFIG.SYS file and set the FILES= line to 20 per
workstation.

     EXAMPLE:

          Four computers, so set FILES=80

2. EDIT the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and set the SHARE parameters to /L:400
and /F:10240.

     EXAMPLE:

          SHARE /L:400 /F:10240

3. Set the READ DOS file attribute on all EXE files.

     EXAMPLE:

          Go into the DacEasy directory, then enter:

               ATTRIB *.EXE +R

4. Change the server's configuration:

   A. Log into the network as user SUPERVISOR.

   B. Launch NET ADMIN.

   C. Highlight the server where DacEasy is installed and press
<enter>.

   D. Highlight Configure and press <enter>.

   E. Highlight Advanced Settings and press <enter>.

   F. Change Connections to the number of machines +2, i.e., four
machines on the network, so set Connections to 6.

   G. Change Client Tasks to a minimum of 5 per machine, i.e., four
machines on the network, so set Client Tasks to 20.

   H. Highlight <OK>, press <enter> and then exit NET ADMIN.

   I. Reboot the server machine so the new configuration will be
loaded.

5. Have all users map to the F: drive letter and run DacEasy off of
F: with the same Btrieve startup options.

     EXAMPLE:

          NET MAP F: SERVER1_DRVC (where SERVER1_DRVC is the default
shared directory created during the PNW installation.

          F:

          CD\DEA4 (or the directory where the DacEasy files are
located).

          Btrieve (followed by the Btrieve startup options).

TROUBLESHOOTING:

"Btrieve Error # 94 on file xxxx.xx
 Unable to lock the specified file.
 File is currently open on another station"

Should the above error message be returned when doing several
postings in a row, do both of the following:

A. Check the SHARE settings in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  Be sure they
are set to a minimum of /L:400 /F:10240. After changing the SHARE
settings, reboot the machine so the changes are loaded.

B. Install the latest Personal NetWare update.  This file can be
found on the following online services:

       NOVELL BBS @ 801-221-5197, Files, Personal NetWare

       COMPUSERVE, GO NETWIRE

Download file PNWUPD.EXE to a server's hard drive and in to a unique
directory.  Then go into that directory and run PNWUPD to extract its
contents.  Then run UPDATED which is an automated process for
installing the update files for DOS.  NOTE: If your computer has MS
Windows installed, also download PNWUPW.EXE, extract it's files and
run UPDATEW to install the update file for the NetWare Client for MS
Windows.
