This file is an update to the NetWare NFS 1.1 release. The following files are included for this revision: NFSP1.TXT 8/21/91 NFSPATCH.EXE 20585 bytes 8/20/91 NFSP1.CMD 1029 bytes 8/20/91 This patch contains bug fixes for the NFS 1.1 release. The bugs/problems addressed are: 1. NFS server sometimes displays the message: 'Request Cache is full, increase tunable parameter - REQUEST_CACHE' even though the queue is in fact not full. 2. Creation of large amount of files/directories in a slow network where there are retransmission of packets may fail. 3. Under very heavy load, the NetWare server may lock up or abend. 4. NetWare NFS does not allow a user other than the file's owner with write permission on the file to write to the file. 5. Using vi to edit an existing file could result in the file ownership being changed to the user who just edited the file. To install this version of NetWare NFS 1.1 Update: 1) From a DOS workstation, login, as supervisor, to the file server where the patch is going to be applied. 2) Make sure the PREPATCH.CMD has been applied to the NFSSERV.NLM. To verify, execute the following command: NFSPATCH /v NFSSERV.NLM If the PREPATCH.CMD has not been applied, stop now and apply PREPATCH.CMD first. Please see NFSPATCH.TXT for details. They are available as PTF-F-001 on NetWire at Novell Forum A lib 16. File name is nfspch.zip located in NOVA lib 16. 3) Make a copy of the NFSSERV.NLM, which is located in the SYS volume under the SYSTEM directory. For example: COPY NFSSERV.NLM NFSSERV.SAV 4) Remove the READ-ONLY attribute from SYS:SYSTEM/NFSSERV.NLM. FLAG NFSSERV.NLM RW 5) Copy both NFSPATCH.EXE and NFSP1.CMD to the SYS:SYSTEM directory. 6) Make SYS:SYSTEM the current directory, and run NFSPATCH.EXE at the DOS prompt as follows: NFSPATCH NFSP1.CMD NFSSERV.NLM A message should appear indicating that has been applied. 7) To verify whether the patch has been applied, execute the following command: NFSPATCH /v NFSSERV.NLM 8) Now NFSSERV.NLM is patched. Use FLAG to replace the READ-ONLY attribute. FLAG NFSSERV.NLM RO 9) To run the new NFSSERV.NLM, type at the NetWare console: :UNLOAD NFSSERV :LOAD NFSSERV Prior to unloading the NFSSERV.NLM, other NLMs such as PLPD, STATD, and LOCKD may have to be unloaded. ***************************************************************************** DISCLAIMER Novell, Inc. makes no representations or warranties with respect to this software patch, and specifically disclaims any express or implied warranties of merchantability, title, or fitness for a particular purpose.
