abstract

This update allows NFS Gateway to run with (and only with) NSS version 3.27b (from N65NSS8B.ZIP). It improves interaction with the NFS Gateway license certificate. It also carries forward the changes from nfsgy8a, which allow for a larger Shadow Cache Size (up to 128 MB), which has been seen to eliminate issues where NFS Gateway volumes stop responding to clients.

details

Overview:

NFS Gateway is closely tied to NSS. Whenever NSS is updated, NFS Gateway must be updated as well. This NFS Gateway update provides compatibility with NSS 3.27b, from the download known as N65NSS8B.ZIP

System Requirements:

This update is intended for use only if these precise support packs and updates are already in use (i.e. the system has been rebooted at least once since these were installed):

NetWare 6.5 SP8
NFS Gateway SP6
N65NSS8B.ZIP

Installation:

NOTE: Steps 4, 5, and 8 can be skipped if nfsgy658a.zip was installed previously. However, it will not hurt anything to perfom these steps again.

1. Verify the current NSS information with the console command "NSS MODULES". Assuming the system has been rebooted since N65NSS8B.ZIP was installed, the NSS module versions should report 3.27b and the snap dates should show 20091111. The NFSGY.NLM included in this download will only function with this version and snap date.

2. In SYS:SYSTEM, rename the following .NLM files to .SP6, .8A, or other desired name.
NFSGY.NLM
GYMOUNT.NLM
GYUMOUNT.NLM
LICMAN.NLM

3. Copy the 4 *.NLM files supplied in this download to SYS:SYSTEM.

4. In SYS:SYSTEM\NFSFTP\ rename JNFSFTP.JAR to JNFSFTP.SP6.

5. Copy the new JNFSFTP.JAR supplied by this update into SYS:SYSTEM\NFSFTP\

6. It is unlikely that NFS Gateway is already running, but if in doubt, execute GYSTOP.NCF or UNLOAD NFSGY.NLM. (This will dismount any NFS Gateway volumes that are currently active.)

7. Execute GYSTART.NCF.

8. If you intend to manage NFS Gateway through iManager, go to the NetWare iManager server (which may be a different machine), to the path:

SYS:tomcat\5.0\webapps\nps\packages\

a. There, rename NFSGYAdmin.NPM to another extension, i.e. NFSGYAdmin.SP6

b. Then copy the new NFSGYAdmin.NPM supplied by this update to that location. After this, iManager should show the new NPM as an installable plugin.

Issues:

A. After installing NSS update N65NSS8B.ZIP, if this NFS Gateway update is not present, NFSGY.NLM will fail to load, and the following types of messages will appear on the logger screen.

NSS-3.27-403: nssRegistration.c[2244]
The module "NFS GATEWAY" has an invalid version number of 3.27. It should be 3.27b.
Load the version displayed on the screen.

9901:Could not initialize NFS Gateway. For more information refer to Error Messages chapter of NFS Gateway Administration Guide.

The NFSGY.NLM provided in this download has an internal NSS version of 3.27b to eliminate this problem.

B. Altered LICMAN.NLM (NFS Gateway license manager) to avoid failures during license renewal.

C. Carried forward all fixes from nfsgy658a.zip:

i. Raised the maximum Shadow Cache Size to 128 MB. This can be set in iManager or directly in the GYSTART.NCF file, as:

nfsgy -shadowCacheSize 128 -pageCacheSize 256

If NFS Gateway volumes (or the server on which they reside) has experienced "hangs" (failure of volumes to respond), use of the above settings should eliminate that issue.

ii. Modifed the iManager plugin to know the new upper limit of Shadow Cache Size; to know the correct default value of Directory Comparison Frequency; to handle a larger number of NFS Gateway volumes.

Uninstalling:

If rolling back to NFSGY658A.ZIP:
Delete the new files copied into place in installation step #3. Rename the original files to their original names (from installation step 2).

If rolling back to NFS Gateway Support Pack 6:
Delete the new files copied into place in installation steps #3, 5, and 8a. Rename the original files to their original names (from installation steps # 2, 4, and 8b). In iManager, uninstall the NFS Gateway Admin plugin and install the original again. If you boosted the Shadow Cache Size to 128, edit the GYSTART.NCF file and return it to the previous maximum of 32.
