abstract

This file contains updated NSS modules for NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 8. This is the second update to the NSS modules that shipped with Support Pack 8. Application of the first update (N65NSS8A) is not necessary to install this update as this set of binaries includes all post Support Pack 8 NSS fixes.

For servers running Novell's NFS Gateway product, this NSS update will necessitate an update to the module NFSGY.NLM. Before applying the NSS update, make sure to download and apply NFSGY658b.zip.

details

Overview:
NSS updates to address issues found after the release of NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 8.

System Requirements:
NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 8

Installation:
1. Extract N65NSS8b.zip at the root of the SYS: volume, or in a sub-directory of your choosing. It will automatically create a sub-directory upon extraction to hold the files included.
2. At the server console load NWCONFIG.
3. Select "Product Options".
4. Select "Install a product not listed".
5. If the "Previously Specified Paths" dialog box appears, press ESC.
6. Press F3 to specify a different path.
7. Enter the path to the directory where the NSS.IPS file exists (by default this is the root of the extracted directory).
8. Specify on the installation screen whether the NCF files will be retained or not (by default they are), in addition to installing the NSS file system binaries.
9. Press F10 to initiate the install. The existing files will be backed up in a directory called !BACKUP.NSS located on the server's DOS partition in c:\nwserver. If a restore is needed, the modules must be put back manually to their proper locations.
10. After the installation completes, the server must be restarted. A "RESTART SERVER" or "RESET SERVER" can be issued from the console command prompt to cycle the operating system and activate these newer NSS NLMs.

Known Problems and Limitations:
none

Technical Support Information:
NSS issues fixed after the release of N65NSS8a (new for this release):
1. Fixed a problem where auditing of file close events would impact server performance negatively.
2. Fixed a problem with auditing where either NSS or the auditing module would consume a large amount of server memory.
3. Fixed a CPU Hog abend caused by a race condition in oplock waiting code.

CIFS issues fixed after the release of N65NSS8a (new for this release):
1. Fixed a memory leak in NSS due to a timing issue with CIFS connections.
2. Fixed a problem where clients could not copy files to a NetWare server via CIFS due to a problem with the LastAccessTime value.
3. Fixed a problem where the command "cifs connections" would abend the server. All of the connections are now displayed without stopping or pausing between screens.
4. Fixed a problem where CIFS incorrectly granted oplocks to directories. This caused delays (minutes) while an application attemped to create a file.

AFP issues fixed after the release of N65NSS8a (new for this release):
1. Fixed a problem where MacOS X 10.6 could not connect to a NetWare 6.5 server via AFP.

Past issues fixed:
NSS issues fixed after the release of NW65SP8:
1. Fixed a problem where an IRF entry would not be deleted from the TrusteeInfo.xml file even after resetting all IRFs.

CIFS issues fixed after the release of NW65SP8:
1. Fixed a problem where files having multiple dots (e.g., file.1.2.txt) would not be visible from a client.
2. Fixed CPU Hog abends with the NSS MPK Spinlock.
3. Fixed a CPU Hog abend found when connecting a Linux client to a NetWare server's CIFS share.
4. Fixed a CPU Hog abend found while freeing TCP sessions.
5. Fixed abends caused by a memory buffer being overwritten (DQ_ENQ).

AFP issues fixed after the release of NW65SP8:
None
