ABSTRACT:

This utility is designed to check for visibility list errors on NetWare 6 NSS
volumes.  The visibility list contains information of who is authorized to see
the different files and directories in the NSS file system.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

CHECKVIS.NLM is NSS build specific.
The only versions currently available are for NetWare 6 Support Pack 2 servers
and NetWare 6 Support Pack 2 servers with either the NW6NSS2B or NW6NSS2C NSS
patches.

1) Extract this CHECKVIS.EXE to a temporary directory.
2) Browse the temporary directory to find the appropriate CHECKVIS.NLM for the
NSS version.
3) Copy CHECKVIS.NLM to SYS:SYSTEM.
4) At the server console type "checkvis volname" where volname is the name of
the volume that you want to dump the trustees from.

Example:
CHECKVIS SYS

The results will be written to CHECKVIS.OUT located at the root of the volume
that was checked (SYS in this example).

ISSUE: 

User rights do not appear on the NSS file system.

There are three basic messages that you might see.  The following are examples:
Missing user in visibility list.
    user ID: 41D42500-E386-11D1-BD-2A-0060B01BC3BC
    directory: \docroot

This entry means that we found an entry that should be in the visibility list
for a directory and it was not there.

Computed count not equal to stored count.
    computed=1  stored=2
    user ID: 44CF1590-E386-11D1-BD-2A-0060B01BC3BC
    directory: \

This means that we computed that the count in the list should be 1 but we found
the actual count to be 2.

Extra visibility entry found.
    computed=0  stored=1
    user ID: 44CF1592-E386-11D1-BD-2A-0060B01BC3BC
    directory: \

This means that we found a visibility entry in the actual list but there were
no actual references when we computed what the list should be.

Many visibility issues can be fixed by applying the latest NSS patch then 
running "NSS /VisibilityRebuild=VolName".
