NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: iPrint Client 4.06 TID #: 2971641 README FOR: nipp406.exe NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: iPrint iPrint 1.0 for NetWare 5.1 iPrint - NW65 ABSTRACT: This version of the iPrint client addresses 401 errors when uploading print drivers using iManager. While this client can be distributed to end user workstations, the only benefit over the 4.05 client will be seen from the administrator workstation that uploads print drivers. Released as public on 05OCT2005. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Double-click the nipp.exe to install the 4.06 iPrint Client to the workstation that uploads print drivers using iManager to the iPrint Broker. A restart of the workstation is required if you are going to perform management operations, such as printer driver upload. The only difference between the 4.05 client and this 4.06 client is a code change to address 401 errors seen when uploading drivers using iManager. If you decide to distribute this client to end users, then the instructions below will be helpful. Four variations of the iPrint Client installation are included in this download; nipp.exe, nipp.zip, nipp_s.exe, and nipp_sr.exe. Rename any of the variations to nipp.exe so that workstations requesting to install the iPrint client through the default ipp page (http://[IP_DNSofiPrintManagerServer]/ipp) will download the version of the administrator's choice. Read the "Description of files" section to understand the differences. To install any one of the versions on one workstation, simply double-click the executable. To distribute the installations through the iPrint page: 1. Rename the executable of choice (nipp_s.exe or nipp_sr.exe) to "nipp.exe". 2. Copy the nipp to the ippdocs directory on the server: - SYS\Apache2\htdocs\ippdocs for NetWare 6.5 - SYS\Login\ippdocs for NetWare 6.0 and 5.1 - /var/opt/novell/iprint/htdocs/ for OES Linux 3. Copy the iPrint.ini to the same directory on the server. After copying those files to the server, the follow process will occur: a. Workstation boots up or the user hits the iPrint page (either a custom iPrint map page or the default iPrint page with a list of printers). b. The iPrint client installed on the workstation (regardless of the version) will check which server* the iPrint printers were installed from. c. The iPrint client will compare the version stated in the iPrint.ini on the server with the version of the iPrint client installed on the workstation. d. Recognizing that the version on the server is newer, the client will download and install to the workstation. The behavior of the installation will vary depending on which nipp.exe is on the server. * Only one server will participate in the process described above. If the iPrint printers installed on the workstation were installed from more than one server, then the default printer will take precedence. If the default printer is a non-iPrint printer, then the server IP address associated to the first iPrint printer listed in the Windows Registry will be contacted for version comparison. Two versions of the uninstall are included in this patch; nipp_su.exe and nipp_u.exe. Read the "Description of files" section to understand the differences. DESCRIPTION OF FILES: All versions of the iPrint client installation listed below are intended for Windows 98, NT, 2000, XP, and 2003. However, because Windows 98 requires a reboot after the install, nipp_sr.exe may be more appropriate for Win9x installs, but not required. nipp.exe = Installs the iPrint Client and displays dialog boxes and progress windows that require user intervention. This is the default installation program. nipp.zip = A WinZip version of the client that can be used with distribution software programs. After the file is unzipped, run setupipp.exe. For a list of the command line parameters that you can use with setupipp.exe, enter setupipp.exe /h at a command prompt. This version of the installation can be useful to set up ZENworks installation packages or 3rd party install programs. nipp_s.exe = Installs the iPrint Client. A screen displays the progress of the install, but requires no user intervention. Note: Windows NT/2000/XP don't require a reboot after the install, so this option is best suited for those operating systems, unless using iCapture. If the printers are captured to an LPT port using iCapture, then the capture will not be available until the user manually reboots the workstation. The user will not be warned of this iCapture issue. nipp_sr.exe = Installs the iPrint Client and reboots the workstation. A screen displays the progress of the install, but no user intervention required. Note: Windows 98 requires a reboot after the install, so this option is best suited for the Windows 98 operating system. nipp_su.exe = Uninstalls the iPrint Client. A screen displays the progress of the uninstall, but requires no user intervention. nipp_u.exe = Uninstalls the iPrint Client. The user confirms to uninstall the client, then a screen displays the progress of the uninstall. ISSUE: Please send feedback regarding the results of this version of the iPrint client (positive or negative) to: patchfeedback@novell.com. Use nipp406.exe as the subject of the message.
