NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: AIOCOMX version 2.18 TID #: 2958184 README FOR: comx218.exe SUPERSEDES: comx216.exe NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: NIAS Remote - Dial-In / Dial-Out - NBM NIAS Routing - NBM NIAS - NWSB (NIAS 4.1) Novell Internet Access Server ABSTRACT: Comx218.exe contains the latest version of aiocomx.nlm (version 2.18, dated November 3, 2000). This version of aiocomx.nlm addresses previous limitations where connections were unreliable at speeds over 19200 through 16550 UARTS. Comx218.exe also contains fixes for WAN link issues involving disconnects, incompletely downloaded web pages and files, and slow IP traffic. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. REN f:\SYSTEM\AIOCOMX.NLM AIOCOMX.OLD) 4) Copy the new aiocomx.nlm to F:\SYSTEM. (ex. COPY F:\TEMP\AIOCOMX.NLM F:\SYSTEM) 5) Load AIOCOMX and restart applications which use AIOCOMX.nlm. ISSUE: Issues resolved in comx218.exe: 1)The read/write buffer size has been increased from 1k to 8k. Prior to this change, users were unable to browse the WEB reliably via NIAS. WEB pages failed to completely load and would eventually timeout. Asynchronous downloads averaged around 1.1K/sec, making this unusable in a production environment. In comparison, a DIGI Card or Stallion Card, with the speed set to 115K could download and browse at approximately 5.2 - 5.5 K per second. (WEB Browsing and downloads through NIAS were previously only reliable on a multiport board.) With this version of AIOCOMX.NLM, the browsing and download speeds now compare to those of a multiport card. Known Issue: With this r/w buffer size change, you may notice RECEIVE OVERRUNS and RECEIVE CRC errors as seen in MONITOR | LAN/WAN Drivers | However, these errors are cosmetic, invisible to the end-user and do not appear to affect performance or data integrity. Issues resolved in comx216.exe: 1) Volumes dismounted after NIAS Remote Access attempted to determine which ports had modems attached. 2) Asynch WAN connections experienced broken links. 3) Slow IP traffic over Asynch WAN connections.
