NOVELL MAKES EVERY EFFORT WITHIN ITS MEANS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ISSUE: 7 INSTALLING THE WINDOWS NT® SNAP-IN 7.1 Planning to use the Windows NT® snap-in To run NetWare® Adminstrator and Novell® Replication Services(TM) under Windows NT® you must have first installed IntranetWare Client for Windows NT (this includes the Windows NT® version of NetWare® Adminstrator). You can download this software from http://support.novell.com/home/client/winnt. You are not advised to attempt to administer Novell® Replication Services(TM) from a Windows NT® client unless you have the Windows NT® snap-in. This is because the Windows 95(TM) version of NetWare® Administrator is not supported on a Windows NT® client. 7.2 Where to install the Novell® Replication Services(TM) Windows NT® snap-in You install the Novell® Replication Services(TM) NT® snap-in on each server which has a) the Windows NT® version of NetWare® Adminstrator installed and b) a workstation from which you want to perform administration for Novell® Replication Services(TM). The default directory on the server for the NT® snap-in files would normally be SYS:\PUBLIC\WINNT. 7.3 Rights required To install the Novell® Replication Services(TM) NT® snap-in files you need file system update rights to SYS:\PUBLIC on the server. 7.4 Installation Procedure for the Windows NT® snap-in The following steps provide the recommended procedure for copying the Novell® Replication Services(TM) Windows NT® snap-in files to the server. They assume that NWADMNNT.EXE is in SYS:\PUBLIC\WINNT. If the server has NWADMNNT.EXE installed elsewhere, substitute the alternative target path in the steps below. 1 Copy NRSADMNT.DLL to SYS:\PUBLIC\WINNT 2 Copy NRSREG32.EXE to SYS:\PUBLIC\WINNT 3 Copy \NLS\ENGLISH\NRSRESNT.DLL to SYS:\PUBLIC\WINNT\NLS\ENGLISH 4 Copy \NLS\ENGLISH\NRSADMIN.HLP to SYS:\PUBLIC\WINNT\NLS\ENGLISH 7.5 Registering the Windows NT® snap-in The procedure you must follow to register the Windows NT® snap-in is identical to that given in Chapter 3 of the "Administrator's Guide to Novell Replication Services" except you must use NRSREG32.EXE to make the registry entry. The registry entry will be \\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\NetWare\\Netware Administrator\\ Snapin Object DLLs WinNT\\NRSADMNT.DLL=NRSADMNT.DLL 8 RUNNING NOVELL® REPLICATION SERVICES(TM) Instructions for loading and running Novell® Replication Services(TM) are provided in Chapter 3 of the "Administrator's Guide to Novell Replication Services". However, you are advised to consult the entire Guide in some detail once you have completed installation so that you may plan for the best use of this product within your organisation. Information about the online version of the "Administrator's Guide to Novell Replication Services" are given in the following section. Information on Novell® Replication Services(TM) is also available from the Help file (NRSADMIN.HLP). This is installed at: SYS:PUBLIC\WIN95\NLS\ENGLISH\NRSADMIN.HLP (Windows 95(TM)) SYS:PUBLIC\WINNT\NLS\ENGLISH\NRSADMIN.HLP (Windows NT®) SYS:PUBLIC\NLS\ENGLISH\NRSADMIN.HLP (Windows® 3.x) You will find that there is some overlap of material between the contents of the Guide and Help. As a general rule, however, you are advised to: a) Use the Guide for planning and reference b) Use Help for operational issues. 12 TRADEMARKS AND PATENTS Novell trademarks IntranetWare is a registered trademark of Novell, Inc.
