NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: IPX/IP Gateway file for NetWare 4.2 TID #: 2952148 README FOR: ipg4201a.exe SUPERSEDES: ipg4201.exe NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: (NIAS) Novell Internet Access Server NetWare for Small Business 4.2 NetWare 4.2 Server 4.2 ABSTRACT: NetWare 4.2 did not come with the files server neccessary to enable IPX/IP Gateway feature. Note, this "A" revision, correct ipg4201.exe missing files and missing instruction steps. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. EXTRACTING FILES =================== A. Copy ipg4201.exe into a temporary directory B. Run ipg4201.exe, this will extract files to temporary directory 1. COPYING THE NECESSARY FILES ============================== A. Copy the following NLMs contained in this archive to the SYS:SYSTEM directory on the server: IPXGW.NLM GWDSINST.NLM DEBUGLOG.NLM B. Copy the contents of the directory NLS\4 in this archive to the SYS:SYSTEM\NLS\4 directory on the server: IPXGW.MSG GWDSINST.MSG GWDSINST.HLP C. Copy the LICMAINT.NLM and GATEWAY.LCN files enclosed in this archive to the root directory of the SYS: volume. 2. INSTALLING THE GATEWAY LICENSE ================================= A. At the server console type: LOAD SYS:LICMAINT.NLM B. Press INSERT to install and new license and select IPX/ IP GATEWAY. C. In the location path field type SYS:\ 3. EXTENDING DIRECTORY SERVICES SCHEMA FOR THE GATEWAY ====================================================== A. At the server console type: LOAD GWDSINST NAME=-GW Example: If your server name is MYSERVER then the gateway object will be the server name with the suffix '-GW' -- MYSERVER-GW. B. When requested, login with a user account that has supervisor rights to the [ROOT] object. 4. LOADING THE GATEWAY MODULE ============================= A. TCP/IP must be configured and running at this server B. At the console type: LOAD NETDB C. At the console type: LOAD IPXGW D. You may include this load command in the AUTOEXEC.NCF of the server. This command should be run after the IPX and TCP/IP stacks have loaded and respective bindings to network interface cards have taken place. 5. CONFIGURING AND ADMINISTERING THE GATEWAY ============================================ In intraNetware 4.11 and Internet Access Server 4 (NIAS4) the procedure described previously was performed in INETCFG, in the PROTOCOLS > TCP/IP section. This would spawn the TCPCFG.NLM which contained an option to configure the gateway. Because the required NLM set has not been shipped with Netware 4.20 and NIAS 4.1, this procedure cannot be done automatically through INETCFG as in previous versions. The other configuration options which are available in this version of the gateway are as follows: A. Gateway access control. This will determine whether the rules set in DS will be enforced or not: SET IPX/IP GATEWAY ACCESS CONTROL = ON / OFF(default) B. Gateway client logging. This will log gateway client accesses to the SYS:GW_AUDIT.LOG file: SET IPX/IP GATEWAY AUDIT LOG = ON / OFF(default) C. IPX/IP Gateway information level. The level of information displayed in the gateway console screen as well as written to SYS:GW_INFO.LOG: SET IPX/IP GATEWAY INFORMATION LEVEL = 1 (errors only) 2 (warnings and errors) 3 (informational, warnings and errors) 4 (events and all of the above) 5 (debug messages and all of the above) D. The gateway also requires a SYS:ETC\RESOLV.CFG pointing to valid name server(s) in order to operate properly. This is specially important if access to the Internet is done through the gateway server. This can be configured in INETCFG by selecting PROTOCOLS > TCP/IP > DNS RESOLVER CONFIGURATION. E. This version of the gateway contains NetWare Admininstrator snap-ins ONLY for the Windows 3.X version of that utility (NWADMN3X.EXE). The snap-in is file IPXGW3X.DLL, provided in this archive. For information on how to setup the snap-in refer to TID 2917726. ISSUE: NetWare 4.2 did not come with the files server neccessary to enable IPX/IP Gateway feature.
