NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: MPR31B; Add-on maintenance patch for MPR 3.1 README FOR: MPR31B.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: NetWare 3.12 NetWare MultiProtocol Router 3.1 NetWare 4.1 ABSTRACT: MPR31B.EXE is an add-on patch for MPR 3.1. It requires the MPR31A.EXE patch to be installed. Novell recommends that all owners of MultiProtocol Router 3.1 on NetWare versions 4.1 and 3.12 install this patch. If you have IntraNetWare or NetWare 4.11, then install the 4.11 Support Pack 1 (411SP1.EXE) instead; do not install this patch. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOM: 1. Changes to the Login Script information (login name and password) in a WAN Call Destination were not saved even when selecting YES at the Save Changes prompt. 2. Special characters like @ or # were not allowed for defining the Local System ID. 3. On systems using Digiboard cards - if the calling routers was configured with a permanent PPP link the server would abend in DMGMT.NLM when the remote router was downed. 4. The Frame Relay Interface option in the FRCON utility displayed an "Smiley face." 5. Under excessive loads, the server may ABEND in WHSMAIO. 6. Loading WHCATCFG.NLM from the system console when INETCFG is already loaded causes Netware 4.1 and Netware 4.11 servers to ABEND. 7. IPXRTR routeless services were not retained if an IPX Default Route was present. 8. On systems with both MPR 3.1 and NWC 2.0, if Netware Connect is started first, then the user runs REINITIALIZE SYSTEM, the server may abend with a message :"ABEND running process CSL Thread." 9. IPX did not support backup calls correctly. "Unrecognized parameter:TARGET" was printed on the system console when an IPX backup call became active. 10. IPXRTR was forwarding SAP packets that advertised an unreachable server (16 hops away) even when the ROUTING=NONE parameter was used. 11. When using export configuration option in INETCFG, the system always copies files to the root directory when a hard drive is selected in the export destination, regardless of the path specified. 12. No checking is done on available disk space when running FLOPPY.EXE from the CD to copy files to diskette. 13. If Enterprise Specific Traps were enabled under INETCFG > Network Interfaces, then the Traps did not show up in PPPCON. 14.The server may abend with a message "ABEND RUNNING PROCESS STATICON UTILITY" when configuring local static services in STATICON. 15. Added new defaults to BUILTINS.CFG: gopher 70/tcp Gopher gopher 70/udp Gopher www-http 80/tcp World Wide Web HTTP www-http 80/udp World Wide Web HTTP nntp 119/tcp Network News Transfer Protocol nntp 119/udp Network News Transfer Protocol ipx 213/tcp IPX (IP Tunnel/IP Relay) ipx 213/udp IPX (IP Tunnel/IP Relay) netware-ip 396/tcp Novell Netware over IP netware-ip 396/udp Novell Netware over IP 16. PPP Wan connections between IntranetWare systems and MPR 3.1 systems would open successfully, but were unable to traffic network protocol data. The problem was caused by the MPR 3.1 version of PPP using a predictor data compression packet header which was inconsistent with the IETF draft standard. 17. Under some circumstances, the WHSMCAPI adaptation driver would not support the full number of ISDN B channels which were configured. WHSMCAPI now supports up to 128 ISDN B channel connections. You can verify this when you load INSTALL.NLM and select Product Options > View/Configure/Remove Install Products. If you also have the WAN Extensions 3.0 product installed, then you must install the WAN31A.EXE patch too. SNA31A.EXE is not a requirement. 1. Only apply MPR31B.EXE to a server that has MPR 3.1 and MPR31A.EXE already installed. Do NOT apply MPR31B to a MPR 3.0 server. 2. Backup the server. NOTE: The login script files SYS:SYSTEM\SAMPLE.SCR and SYS:SYSTEM\SAMPLE.LSC are overwritten in this install. Therefore, if you have modified/customized this login script, back it up! 3. Create a directory named NIAS_PTF under the SYS:SYSTEM directory. It must be named SYS:SYSTEM\NIAS_PTF. 4. Copy MPR31B.EXE into the NIAS_PTF directory. Note: If you want to install MPR31B from a diskette, you must volume label the diskette NIAS_PTF. 5. Run MPR31B.EXE to extract the contents of the patch. 6. From the server console, load INSTALL.NLM. 7. Select "Product Options". 8. On a NetWare 4.1 Server, select "View/Configure/Remove Install Products". (For a NetWare 3.12 server, skip to #9) 9. Verify that MPR31A.PTF is shown in the INSTALL screen. 10. If you have WAN Extensions 3.0, then verify that the WAN31A.EXE patch was applied. The following will be displayed: WANEX V3.1 WAN Extensions 3.0 MPR31A.PTF 11. If NetWare for SAA 2.0 is shown on the list of currently installed products, then complete the following steps. Otherwise, skip to #12. 11a. At the system console, type SEARCH. Make note of the numbers in the path SYS:SYSTEM\NWSAA. 11b. Type SEARCH DEL , where is the value noted in step 11a. 11c. Type SEARCH, and make note of the numbers in the path SYS:SYSTEM\COMMEXEC. 11d. Type SEARCH DEL , where is the value noted in step 11c. These search paths must be removed before PINSTALL.NLM can be run. After you complete the installation of this patch, bringing down and restarting the server will restore the search paths. 12. Press to install MPR31B. 13. Tell INSTALL the path to the NIAS_PTF directory: SYS:SYSTEM\NIAS_PTF. 14. Follow the prompts to install MPR31B. 15. Down the server and bring it back up. NIAS_PTF v1.0, NIAS Service Patch will be added to the list of currently installed products. NOTE: If MPR 3.1 is installed on a server which is also running a version of NetWare Connect 2, lower than release 2.0.28, then use of DHCPD.NLM will cause an abend. Downloading NWC206.EXE, in order to upgrade to release 2.0.30, corrects this problem. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
