abstract

This NetWare 2.2 patch fixes a problem with IBM PS/2 Models with TYPE II keyboard controllers when used with the NetWare UPS monitoring feature through the mouse port. The problem only occurs on the IBM PS/2 Models with TYPE II Keyboard

installation

1. Copy UPSPATCH.VAP into the SYS:SYSTEM directory.

2. DOWN the file server and bring it back up. Load the VAP at the file server console by responding "y" at the prompt "Value Added Processes have been defined. Do you wish to load them?" You may want to have the VAPs load automatically by modifying the SERVER.CFG. (See the manual USING THE NETWORK v2.2, page 13).

3. If loading other VAPs, this UPSPATCH.VAP should be loaded first. This can be effected by renaming this UPSPATCH.VP0, and renaming the other VAPs XXX.VP1, XXX.VP2, ....

4. To confirm that the UPSPATCH.VAP has been loaded, type the console command "VAP" to list all VAPs that are currently loaded.

PROBLEMS ADDRESSED:
This fix is intended for NetWare 286 v2.2 (5, 10, 50, 100 users). This patch fixes a problem encountered by users of IBM PS/2 Models with TYPE II keyboard controllers when used with NetWares UPS monitoring feature through the mouse port. This problem only occurs on the IBM PS/2 Models with TYPE II Keyboard controllers. TYPE II controllers are included with all model 90's and 95's, all type 38570-E61 Model 70's, all Model 30's, and all Model 35's.

This fix is needed if the following symptom is seen: At the file server console, the "Battery Low" message will be displayed when UPS monitoring is enabled and the keyboard at the file server is used. This will occur on both dedicated and nondedicated file servers. If the user keeps working at the file server after receiving this message, the server will shut down.

IMPLEMENTATION:
