Install the Windows Dialer ----------------------------- 1. "Explode" DIALR1.EXE, DIALR2.EXE, and DIALR3.EXE into an empty directory. (To install from diskettes, copy each diskette image to a diskette. Name each diskette with the same volume name used for the diskette image directory -- DISK1, DISK2, DISK3, DISK4.) 2. From the Windows File menu, select Run, click Browse, and locate SETUP.EXE either on DISK1 of the hard drive directory or the DISK1 diskette. 3. Click OK when you have located SETUP.EXE. 4. When the Install Options dialog box appears, review the information on the screen and modify it if necessary. 5. Press OK to install the Dialer. - If you need additional information, refer to "Installing the Windows Dialer" on page 3-3 of the NetWare Connect 2.0 User's Guide (provided with NetWare Connect 2.0). - If you are installing from a hard drive, you will be prompted to insert the next disk. When prompted to insert the next disk, change the directory PATH name. For example, when prompted for DISK2, change the path name to C:\DIALER\DISK2. When prompted for DISK3, change the path name to C:\DIALER\DISK3, and so on. 6. After installation is complete, reboot your PC. When the prompt "Do you want to load the remote client software?" appears, enter N for No. You are now ready to install NetWare Client 32 as described below (optional). B. Installing NetWare Client 32 (optional) ------------------------------------------ If you want to use the DIALR1 series with NetWare Client 32, install Netware Client 32 by completing the following steps. 1. Obtain a copy of NetWare Client 32 or log in to a NetWare server that provides access to NetWare Client 32. NetWare Client 32 is available on: - CompuServe GO NWCL32 - the Internet at: http://support.novell.com/home/client/c32dw/ 2. Use the Run option under the Windows File menu to locate the SETUP.EXE for the DOS and Windows version of NetWare Client 32. When you have located SETUP.EXE, click OK to start the program. The installation program will start and display a welcome screen. 3. Click Continue and Yes to continue. The Directory Locations dialog box will appear. 4. Confirm the target directory for the installation and Windows directory. 5. Click Next to continue. The ODI Driver Selection dialog box will appear. 6. To use NetWare Client 32 with the NetWare Connect Windows Dialer and establish a remote connection, set the fields on the ODI Driver Selection dialog box as follows. - Leave the Board field set to the default (the currently displayed board type). - Leave the Driver button set to 32-bit. 6. Press Next to continue. The installation program will install the NetWare Client 32 software and modify your NET.CFG and STARTNET.BAT according to the selections you made. 7. Edit your system's AUTOEXEC.BAT file as follows: - make sure that AUTOEXEC.BAT has a PATH statement providing a path to C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 and C:\NET\BIN. - Comment out the line that loads STARTNET.BAT. The line should look something like this: REM @CALL C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\STARTNET.BAT or REM @CALL C:\NWCLIENT\STARTNET.BAT 8. Edit your system's STARTNET.BAT file. This file is located in the C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 directory. - Comment out the following lines in STARTNET.BAT by inserting REM at the beginning of each line, as shown in this example: REM c:\net\bin\yesno.exe "Do you want to load the remote client software? (y/n)" REM if errorlevel 1 goto LoadNet REM goto LoadRem REM :LoadNet 9. Comment out the lines that say Load IPX and Load TCPIP. 10. Comment out the line that says :LoadRem. 11. Comment out all of the lines after the LoadRem statement. 12. Save your changes. Your STARTNET.BAT should now look something like this: echo off REM c:\net\bin\yesno.exe "Do you want to load the remote client software? (y/n)" REM if errorlevel 1 goto LoadNet REM goto LoadRem REM :LoadNet SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\NIOS.EXE LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\LSLC32.NLM LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CMSM.NLM LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\ETHERTSM.NLM LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CNE2000.LAN INT=5 PORT=360 FRAME=ETHERNET_802.2 LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CNE2000.LAN INT=5 PORT=360 FRAME=ETHERNET_802.3 LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CNE2000.LAN INT=5 PORT=360 FRAME=ETHERNET_802_II LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\TCPIP.NLM LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\IPX.NLM Load IPX Load TCPIP LOAD C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\CLIENT32.NLM REM goto Exit REM :LoadRem REM lh c:\nwclient\ncomx.com REM lh c:\nwclient\nwremote.com REM @ lh c:\nwclient\ipxodi.com REM @ c:\net\bin\tcpip.exe REM @ SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH REM :Exit REM echo on 13. Change directory to C:\NET\BIN and rename the files WINSOCK.DLL and WLIBSOCK.DLL to WINSOCK.OLD and WLIBSOCK.OLD. These files are used only with 16bit TCP/IP. 14. Make sure the NET.CFG in your C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 directory has the following sections and settings in it: Link Support Max Boards 4 Max Stacks 8 Link Driver NCOMX Int 4 Port 3f8 Frame PPP PROTOCOL TCPIP PATH TCP_CFG C:\NET\TCP NOTE: The installation programs assume that COM1 is being used; otherwise the Dialer will change the Int or Port values for the users; or you can do this yourself. 15. Copy the RMTSHIM.BAT provided in DIALR1, to your C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 directory. This file is in the DISK1 directory. NOTE: You may rename RMTSHIM.BAT to another name, if you wish. To Start the Dialer Under Client 32 =================================== Once you have completed the installation, follow these steps to run the Windows Dialer under NetWare Client 32. 1. Reboot your PC. 2. Do one of the following: a. If you want to initiate a remote connection, type RMTSHIM (or if you renamed the file, the filename of the renamed batch file). b. If you want to initiate a LAN connection, execute the STARTNET.BAT in your C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 directory. 3. Make sure all of the drivers and protocol stacks have loaded correctly. 4. Start Windows 3.1 or 3.11. 5. If you are initiating a remote connection, start the Windows Dialer and use it as you normally would. Limitations =========== - Disable software compression when using the Dialer with NetWare Client 32. (select either "None" or "Hardware" in the Compression section). Software compression is not currently supported with the Dialer running under NetWare Client 32. If you have software compression enabled in the Port Settings dialog box, for the NetWare Connect Windows Dialer (the Software button is on under the Compression section), you will be prompted to run the NWSPEED program when dialing using a modem connection. - When using NetWare Client 32 with the Windows Dialer, you can not have both a LAN connection and a remote connection at the same time, because the remote driver is still a 16bit driver. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
