ConsoleOne™ is a Java utility that lets you manage NDS® objects, schema, partitions, replicas, and NetWare® server resources. Additional capabilities are added to ConsoleOne if you install other Novell® products. For example, if you install NDS eDirectory™, LDAP management capabilities are added.

Other Novell products include snap-ins you can use to administer those products. These snap-ins are available from the Novell Download Site.

System Requirements

Operating System One of the following (or later) releases:

Windows* 95/98 with Novell Client 3.2 and the NICI Client

Windows NT*/2000 with Novell Client 4.7 and the NICI Client

NetWare 5 Support Pack 3

Note: You can get Novell clients and the NICI client from the Novell Downloads Site. You can get NetWare support packs from the Minimum Patch List Site.

Accessibility features are available only on Windows

RAM Recommended: 128 MB (more will improve performance)
Minimum: 64 MB
Processor Recommended: 200 MHz or faster
Disk Space 38 MB
Screen Resolution Minimum: 800 x 600 with 256 colors

Recommendations For Optimal Performance

Installation

If a previous version of ConsoleOne is running on the computer where you will install ConsoleOne, exit that version of ConsoleOne.

If you will install ConsoleOne on a NetWare server, unload all Java processes and JAVA.NLM on that server.

To see the active Java processes, enter JAVA -SHOWALL at the console prompt.
To unload all Java processes, enter JAVA -KILLALL at the console prompt.
To unload JAVA.NLM, enter JAVA -EXIT at the console prompt.

Download the ConsoleOne file to a temporary location on a Windows workstation. This file is a Windows executable. Double-click the C1.EXE file that you just downloaded. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. When you are prompted to choose the location to install to, choose either a drive mapped to a server volume or choose a local workstation drive.

Starting ConsoleOne on Windows

The steps to start ConsoleOne on Windows depend on where ConsoleOne is installed.

Installation Location Steps
NetWare volume Map a drive (with a letter, not a UNC path) to the NetWare volume.

On the NetWare volume, browse to PUBLIC\MGMT\CONSOLEONE\1.2\BIN.

Double-click CONSOLEONE.EXE.

Local hard disk On the Windows desktop, double-click the ConsoleOne icon.

Starting ConsoleOne on NetWare

Depending on whether the server GUI is up, complete the appropriate steps:

GUI Is Up Steps
Yes Switch to the GUI.

Click Novell > ConsoleOne.

No At the console prompt, enter C1START.
