Novell eDirectory 8.6.2 for Windows NT/2000 Server

The 56-bit version of Novell® eDirectory™ 8.6.2 for all supported platforms is available for free for evaluation in non-production environments. If you want to run Novell eDirectory 8.6.2 in a production environment, you need to purchase the 128-bit version. If you are a Novell eDirectory 8.6.1 customer, the upgrade to Novell eDirectory 8.6.2 is available for free for use in production environments.

Downloading Novell eDirectory 8.6.2 for Windows NT/2000 Server

  1. Create a directory on your server (for example, C:\NOVELL\NDS).
  2. From the Novell Software Downloads page, click Novell eDirectory 8.6.2 for NT/2000.
  3. Following the onscreen prompts, download to the directory that you created.
  4. Unzip the file.

Downloading License Files

The installation program requires a license for Novell eDirectory 8.6.2. Before installing, prepare a license diskette.

  1. Go to the Novell eDirectory 8.6.x Eval License Download Web page.
  2. Follow the onscreen prompts to download a Sm@rtCert program, request and receive a license, and create a license diskette.

System Requirements

If you are using RCONSOLE, you need a ConsoleOne™ administrator workstation that has 64 MB of RAM (128 recommended) and a 200 MHz or faster processor.

Installing on a Windows NT/ 2000 Server

  1. Meet the prerequisites concerning NTFS, Novell Certificate, and installing into an eDirectory tree that has NetWare® and NT/2000 servers.
  2. For more information, see Installing eDirectory for Windows NT/2000 Server at the Novell Documentation Web site.

  3. Update the eDirectory schema by running DSREPAIR.
  4. For information about the correct version of DSREPAIR and where to run this utility, see Installing eDirectory for Windows NT/2000 Server at the Novell Documentation Web site.

  5. Install Novell eDirectory 8.6.2.
    1. At the NT/2000 server, log on as Administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
    2. Run SETUP.EXE from the downloaded file.
    3. Select which components to install.

      You can install the components separately or together.

    4. Follow the online instructions.

      You will be prompted for an eDirectory license. Use the license diskette that you created earlier.
