These extenders are used in many types of programs, especially games. Games Novell is aware of which use these extenders are: DOS 4GW: Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (by Sierra) Sim City 2000 (by Maxis) Raptor (by Apogee) One Must Fall (by Epic MegaGames) Doom JEMM Privateer (by Origin) Strike Commander (by Origin) There are many more programs, both games and non-games, which use these extenders. Note that not all programs give the same type of problems. In addition, some may not have problems with specific EMM386 configurations. SOLUTION: Obtain the update file D70U08.EXE (or later file). This contains (among other files) a new EMM386.EXE which will allow DOS 4GW and JEMM programs to run. To run one of these programs, the user should first give the following command at the DOS prompt. EMM386 PIC=ON After exiting the program, give the command EMM386 PIC=OFF If problems still occur, try turning DPMI OFF at the command line, or make sure that neither DPMI nor MULTI are set ON with the EMM386 device line in the CONFIG.SYS file.
